Gough jig and filing

I have to say I used the same (Gough jig) to make much smaller knife with the same thickness. It did take me a very long time to finish the flat ground (even starting with a steeper angle it takes a lot of time).
Natlek's jig looks like a metal version of the Gough jig. The interesting thing is to use it for sanding. I will likely try that but I need to figure out how to attach the sand paper holder (can't weld).

Which brand file you use? With quality files is a pleasure to work and filing is fast ...... One hour for both sides with two coffee breaks ...........

In the same way as you attach file :) Find a piece of flat iron of about 12 inches length and width 1 inch .Note ................I recommend that is the same thickness as the file you are using ,so it is easier to continue with sandpaper / the angle / after file . For gluing sandpaper now I use double-sided adhesive tape /now I use this tape even on my 10 inch disk sander/ I found that it is easier to remove when is time to change sandpaper ............

I use nicholson files.
I'll see about how to attach. I use hose clamps which wouldn't be big enough but I can probably by bigger ones. I'll need to see about finding thick enough iron but I really want to try this for my next knife as I have had issues keeping the separation between bevel and non bevel crisp when hand sanding.

I use Bahco file , best for now I have .And most I use them only on hardened steel from circular saw for wood /46HRC/ .This is ceramic sandpaper ....Grit 100 , last long time and fast take of file mark ...

I am working on a very similar project. It took me about 6 hours for 1 side. I have been dreading doing the other side because it just takes so long. Good work, I know your pain lol.

Nice grind :)

Get a good file and it will take you less than an hour to grind both side ;)

Like this one from Bahco for example...............

Thank you Natlek,

I've never really spent very much money on a file but it looks like it might be worth it. What is the size of your file (length and width)? I might order one. I am just using a cheap Canadian Tire 10" coarse bastard and it's taking forever.

Wow very nice job, looks like a perfect satin finish. How did you get the plunge line so perfect and did you buy the 52100 in a flat stock or did you have to forge it?

You can cut the plunge in with a round chainsaw file before you even start on the bevel. Then just grind with the flat file from that point on.
