Hiya,

I've just started playing with this tool and I like it a lot - plus it's free. I use a simple ligthweight Geko GPS and this allows me to dump my data and keep a track of the bushwalks I've done.

GPS Visualizer is a free, easy-to-use online utility that creates maps and profiles from GPS data (tracks and waypoints), street addresses, or simple coordinates. Use it to see where you've been, plan where you're going, or visualize geographic data (business locations, scientific observations, events, customers, real estate, geotagged photos, etc.).

Thanks for the link - I'll be sure to check it out.
If you have any other ideas on free enhancements to GPS, I'd love to hear about them.

I use EasyGPS, http://www.easygps.com/ . It's perfect for sending geocaching coordinate files to a GPS and other simple tasks. Entering coordinates by hand sucks.

I've also used many different freeware GIS programs. One in particular was very good, and even interacted directly with my GPS. Wish I could think of the name... don't have it installed on the new computer.

I found an old forum topic at another website where I listed these three freeware programs as having GPS interactive capabilities: Terrain, MicroDEM, and 3DEM.
I no longer have these installed, so I can't provide much additional information. Perhaps I can find some download links...

Here ya' go,
Terrain: http://www.softree.com/products/ttools.htm
Microdem: http://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth/website/microdem.htm
3DEM: http://www.visualizationsoftware.com/3dem.html

These should keep you busy for a while. :D
The 'fun' part is learning about government GIS data file sets, and figuring out which file formats are compatible with which programs. :D

I used EasyGPS for a while and then finally upgraded (for a price) to ExpertGPS.

It is a wonderful on-line system that provides access to USGS 24K topo maps, aerial imaging, and other GPS-related features. A great product for the price. Having the on-line access to the topo maps alone is wonderful, but it also has all the GPS features too.
