Gränsfors Bruk-Is this satisfactory for the money?

I wish all the people who pay $150-$350 for these average-quality new axes would give me half that on average for the nice old USA axes stacked up in my garage. I still can't wrap my head around why people buy these things at all.

Not seeing any pics. However in my opinion the quality control has vastly gone down hill. Without rambling too much, I no longer purchase GB from retailers. I’ll swoop an older one from the forums once and a while but nothing new. They’re not what they used to be and for that reason, I believe they’re no longer worth the price tag.

I recently bought a GF Small Forest Axe and everything was perfect. I am recovering from some injuries, so have not done anything with it yet, but expecting good results. I will post up if there are any disappointments.

Spoiler alert!! I will not report self inflicted disappointments!!

What do you have? Might be interested! :-)

Resurrecting this old thread so that I don’t create a brand new one for the same issue. Whose initials do you have stamped on this axe head? I only see ES as the smith for the Gransfors axes that are left over st the shops and all of them have aesthetic flaws. If axes work reliably, I won’t mind, but the edge does not seem to line up symmetrically on those I see made by Erik (ES).

Any updates with your axe?

so, a GB carpenters axe just showed up in the mail

feel weird about it. I am happy with it, going to keep it and treasure it and all, everything is more than functional, but...

the way it is hung is really messy. a good deal of epoxy or something was used, and some ended up dripping down onto the side of the steel. the wedge is significantly more beat up than the quoted photo.

on the plus side, the wood is good, and will be even better with a fresh coat of BLO and wax. grain orientation perfect. can't complain about the steel - the forging seems where they shine. trimmed fingernails with comfort out of the box and is a rough shaving sharp.

I'm surprised how satisfied I am with this carpenters axe/hatchet despite the cost/quality control. however, I am glad I placed an order for a carving hatchet from seven pines forge and didn't go with the GB model

I am a little disappointed. not because the GB carpenters axe is terrible or anything. just, well... because it's a really nice tool even like this

and yet it could have been so much more
