I'll do an Update Video to my "Damascus EDC Knives" next week. I've been sick in bed for 2 weeks, and getting bedsores (*_*).

How do you guys feel about Ivory?

I'm uncomfortable with it because it represents a dead elephant.
Basically one killed and more or less wasted just for the tusks.

I know that Mammoth is long dead and hasn't been killed in this way.
But I kind of still feel the same about it.

I'm torn because I eat meat and use leather.
I justify this to myself by thinking that most parts of a commercial beast are put to use.

Using this logic, you could not use or step on dirt because it contains the dead cells/elements of millions of animals and insects that decomposed over the millennia. And would you kill or eat a plant, which is alive, rather than the bones of a long dead animal? We are all made of atoms and will return to the earth when we die and the caskets corrode a million years from now.

Humans, being social creatures, made an agreement not to eat each other for evolutionary (survival) reasons, and we have extended that to our pets, which in the olden days helped primitive humans survive. But what value is served by not using the long dead bones of a mammoth?

Wow! That is gorgeous! Beautiful Damascus and bark. They look great together. Congrats.

The last time I had ivory put on a knife, the elephant had been dead over 40 years....
