Just want some peoples 2 cents here, what PRODUCTION knives are on the same pedestal as Rockstead, shirogorov, Chris reeve? To many those brands are the best of the best when it comes to production knives. What do you think?

I don't know. You've thrown me off a little bit with your list. I think a big part of what we all call "grail knives" is their obtainability (or lack thereof). On price point alone, Shiros and Rocksteads are in another league than CRKs.

Affordability is relative to wealth . So grail is on a sliding scale ? o_O

Perhaps the grail is about one's drive to satisfy an insatiable inner hunger !

Those Grismo knives seem pretty desireable. The Holt spectre is up there.

Rockstead probably has the nicest blade on any production knife. Imagine if they started doing collabs with say CRK and other high end companies where the blade is made by Rockstead and the handle is Chris Reeve.

Grail knife = Al Marr Smatchet Serrated..... VERY low production numbers initially, and discontinued VERY quickly.... but, I NEED one

Damn, never heard of Rockstead prior to this thread, very impressive.

Grail knife usually means a knife someone wants but can't currently obtain, but hopefully will some day. So it really means something different to everyone.

I want a north arms knives skaha in carbonfiber, they don't make one yet though

For me the Holt specter is a true grail. I want one terribly, and the price isn’t an issue. I just can’t find one!

Shiros, Rocksteads and CRKs are all production knives to me.
Grailknives have nothing to do with value/cost, availability or whether they are custom or not. It is all about personal, subjective desirability. At least in my opinion.
A grail can be a Blue M390 PM2 just as much as a custom Rexford.

I agree. What I am saying that it's difficult to answer "what production knives are on the same level" as knives which are inherently (by one important objective measure) on different levels.

Yeah all three cater to different buyers and at a certain price point comparisons become increasingly difficult.

Yes , except when you finally obtain your grail , it suddenly isn't !

Exactly. I go from productions, whittle everything down to a couple grails, then decide I’d rather have 12 mid priced productions and all of a sudden some random spyderco is my new grail. Repeat until all knives gone to PayPal and shipping costs.

I'm not a grail guy nor a "must have all the knives" guy.

I'm simple and I like things simple so when looking at the new hotness that everyone is drooling over I ask myself if it would replace the knife I carry every day and that answer is generally no. Last year I hemmed and hawed over a knife at the online knife porn shop and after six months of thinking I thought it would so I pulled the trigger and it didn't.
