Grain direction - preference?

What’s your preference for grain direction when making scales? Parallel to the blade? Perpendicular? Angled?

Do you ever mix curved & straight- I.e - curvy blade with straight-grained scales/vice versa? Or try and keep like oriented pieces together?

Cheers

grain (normaly) goes from the butt towards the point. It is strongest that way.
Sometimes X-cut us used but it isn't as strong.
Also wood looks very "off" if you orientate it spine to edge

i don't have a preference, it depends on the look. sometimes i like 45 degree angle grain across the handle. the handles dont flex, so i am not concerned as much about the strength of it.
