Uncle Bill lists some blems as having a grainline in the handle. Is this a crack or is it a discoloration that could hide a crack that will appear?
Is it simple to fix a narrow crack, and are the blems "guaranteed?"
Most grainlines don't need any "fixing" at all. The regular treatment with some lanolin based product is all that is needed. The blems with grainlines I have are only a small hairline crack that may or may not be just on the surface. That's why Uncle Bill says on the blem posts that "probably won't go anywhere". To fix a narrow crack I usually use some form of "superglue" I use a thinner type that we use at work (loctite 408). I figure Crazy glue would work just as well.
I think a grainline can be one of two things - a very fine crack, almost like a deep scratch, or a color variation in the horn that looks like it could turn into a crack.
