I just returned to civilization after a grand adventure which included some skiing, ice climbing, and a 3 week raft expedition through the Grand Canyon. I thought I'd share some pics...
This was 12/14- our first day of snow down in the canyon.

There were fantastic formations and caves in the canyon walls everywhere.

We endured some mishaps, but everyone came away relatively unscathed.

WOW - Great pics. The GC is such a beautiful place. I'd love to go back and hike down inside.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

For perspective, notice the 18' raft in the lower left corner.

Wow, Nice pics  Looks like a great time ! I would like to visit the GC someday :(

It is an amazing place, and definately worth a look. It was the first time I'd been there, and the bottom-up perspective was damn near overwhelming.

Oh, and some of the things I learned, as is applicable to W&SS:
1. High winds+ tents + cacti= bad:(
2. Duct tape, Aquaseal, patch kits, et al will not work in below freezing temperatures no matter how much you swear.
3. Batoning firewood makes city-folk freak out- until the fire is made.;)
4. Frost bite hurts, but not nearly as much as the infection that follows.
5. Flash floods can happen in any season.
6. When a 150' x 10' x 60' section of the canyon wall collapses a few hundred yards from camp, the ground moves alot, and it is scary!

That is the ultimate in trips :D

The canyon itself was, by far, the most amazing, the most challenging, and the longest trip I have done. When we eddied out at Diamond Creek, 21 days and 226 miles later, I didn't want for it to be done. (That shower was nice though! Especially to have a wife that didn't stink to high heaven!;)) But for some reason we went off and did this for another week- followed by some B/C frollicking in W. Colorado.

Great set of photos man. I'm sure that's a trip you will never forget. I made the climb down South Kaibab and back out on Bright Angel in 11/07. Plan to do a variation in the next year or so.

Looks like our taste in knives may be quite similar. If that Busse in the photo is a SJTAC ETS in sage and tan we're dead on. ;)

Here's a link to some photos from my home turf in Northern New Mexico:

The avatar was shot on the South Kaibab trail.

It is an ETS SJTAC. I think my next trip down there will be to hike some of the trails. With the unfavorable weather, and some of the mishaps that we endured, our time to hike the side canyons was limited. Thanks for the compliments on the photos, but I have to admit, in this instance, it's not the photographer, it's the subject.
By the way Bill, the avatar photo is excellent! I think that has helped me choose which trail to wander around on when I get back.
