Granite slab?

Jeez. Yeah, I like the price on that 12x18...I just don't like having to move a 70lb piece of stone lol. Although, I'm hoping where I place it on my bench will be where it sits most of the time.

If they weren't so cheap and if they didn't have free shipping, I might consider finding a smaller slab. But, it's REAL hard to pass up a deal like Enco has going on!

Yep I just ordered mine from Enco. Had to toss something else on the order though because you need $25 or more for the free shipping. The plate is $24.95 shame a nickle doesn't buy anything these days :p

WOW! I think Enco is running free shipping now too!! Looks like I'll be the new owner of a 12x18 slab. Looks like Grade A is backordered...so I'll be getting B. I don't think the differences between A and B for us are going to be an issue...and it's $12 cheaper!

Yeah for what we're using it for I don't think anyone is going to notice the difference between .0001 and .0002 :).

My point exactly. They have a sale on ANSI approved safety glasses for like $1-1.5 per pair. I'm going to add a few pairs on to my order to make it $25+...of course, there's some other things I like too...hmmm...DAMNIT! LOL :D

Got the same one from Enco on their $24/free shipping sale, came with a slight chip in one corner-- they just toss it rattling around in a cardboard box, no padding to speak of. Enco replaced it free. Both plates shipped free. FYI, U.S. govt. NIST standards for Grades A & B plates are online. You get a certificate of Grade B with the Enco plate, which is from China. I don't believe a word of it. But it feels as smooth and level as I need for scribing grind lines.

You guys are gonna love your surface plates when you get em. You will be able to get stuff pretty darn flat. That is one of the most used tools I havein my garage. Then down the road wait till you become obsessed with flat AND parallel!

Patrice you got it made. you can face mill yer stuff then knock the machining marks down on the surface plate.

I have a couple of Grizzly plates. One is a 18"x24"x3" monstrosity weighing in at 154lbs. I remember them driving it to my car on a forklift. I REALLY remember carrying it from my car to my basement shop... cradled in my arms like a solid gold baby. :D

Fletch,

Your scripting problem:

Try deleting all temp internet files
Make sure your script debugging is disabled
Make sure you have the latest activex installed and your operating system is fully updated

Jeff

I got it nailed down Jeff thanks. I checked my no script plug in and told it to allow Enco. After I closed and re opened the browser everything worked fine. Thanks anyway.

...I bet it's all that pr0n he downloads that has his computer acting up...

I mean...glad ya got it fixed! ;)

So it came today, everything looks good except that one corner is chipped. It's not taken off bit it looks more like if you took something and dug out part of the corner of it. The question now is do I call Enco or just say the heck with it?

I guess now you just have to compare how much your time is worth against how much this block is worth. Plus, will they pay for shipping both ways?

If it doesn't bother you and you're ready to start working on something else, there's your answer.

Fletch,

In all reality, you still have 2 sides to work with, it just depends if you want to wait for Enco to send you another one and how strongly you feel about getting a damaged product. I guess for me I would send it back, I paid for an unchipped product with straight and level sides within a certain tolerance, and that's what I want to get.

Good Luck.

Jeff

Yep, granite counter top shops will give you all the scraps you can carry off too

I called them and explained the situation to them. The girl on the phone immediately said. "Well it's damaged we'll send you a new one". I asked her what is involved in sending this one back and she said it's no good I can throw it out. They're shipping out a new one free of charge (only problem is they're out and not expected in till June), I don't know how accurate the measurement certs are but this one said it came in at .0001. Either way I think that is a first class move by the company, this is my first dealing ever with them and I'll likely be getting more products through them as I need them.
