i used to work at a granite shop. those look like old sample pieces that are just being reused as a flat surface.

and luckily, i was able to snag a few samples while i worked there. i have a 1x3ft and 1x2ft piece.

Enco has 3" thick ones that are certified that are larger for slightly more. Pretty good deals when they have 20 or 30% and free shipping.

Yes, many cabinet shops will give you big pieces that have been cut out where the sink is to go. Mine is about 14" X 20" Frank

I got a couple of free slabs from a countertop place....They told me to go out back, they called it the graveyard, said take whatever I wanted.
