Anyone have any experience with the new GB Kubben hand hatchet? I just learned of its existance the other day and so I asked Santa Claus to bring me one. Its wrapped under the Christmas Rosemary bush right now and I cant wait to see it. Its the lowest price axe from the Swedes at Gransfor for $108. Its has the heavier 1lb head of the wildlife hatchet, but the shorter hickory handle of their small adze at 9.5". By picture on-line it looks like the handle also has the stippling like the hunter model for better handling when wet. Its a cute little thing and seems pretty effective as I watched some englishman on youtube chop and carve out a bowl with it. I guess thats what "kubben" means- bowler. Anyone have a Kubben? What hatchet or small axe do you carry on your outings? Currently my 11 oz Gransfors Mini does a great job for me.

I have a 10" wetterlings which has a head closer to the kubben than the belt axe (thicker behind the bit). I don't own a mini but I've handled one before and I think I actually like the somewhat heftier head on the 10"er. After re-profiling it with a narrow convex bevel on one side and a V-edge with the shoulder knocked off on the other, it's proving to be quite a capable little carver/ general woods tool. That all said, the Kuben looks to be quite a nice tool and I'm sure you'll be quite happy with it!
