Gransfors Bruks had a booth at the SHOT show.
I had a chance to talk to them for about 1/2 hour. Very nice folks.

If I was looking for an axe I would buy one of theirs. They have that "old time" look that speaks of quality. They also come sharp, very sharp, unlike the axes you see in the hardware stores.

Even if you don't have any interest in an axe right now, take a look at their web site and order their free Axe book.

I agree that Granfors Bruks axes are high quality. I have the small forest axe and it shipped shaving sharp. It is also easy to resharpen after use. There are several sources on the Net, in fact the GB website has links to some of them. If I recall, there is a log home supply company that seemed to have the best prices. I've ordered a full size Snow & Nealley axe and splitting maul so should be able to provide some sort of comparison after they arrive.

I have a GB hatchet, it is a great hatchet. It came very sharp and retains its edge well.

I just got a new Snow and Nealley 3/4 axe. I like it ok. The head shape and size are exactly what I wanted. The hickory handle is fairly well-finished; the grain looks pretty tight. My main disappointment is that there is some pitting in the head and lots of grind marks. I guess this is just the way they come.

I saw some Collins axes at Lowe's (a home improvement chain around here) and I liked the head on one of the full-sized axes but the handles were all wide grained (nasty finish on them as well--and American made to boot). I see this more and more. Must be mostly young hickory that they are using instead of mature or old growth. Nothing beats old growth hickory handles on an axe.

I have the hunters axe and it is one of the best tools I own. It's great, I use it almost every day to cut kindling for the wood stove. This axe is a absolute joy to use, it swings effortlessly and stays sharp. This is one thing I would never consider selling.
Thanks

They make the best axes IMHO. I have their forest axe and it is great. I highly recomend them to anyone that wants a great product.

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold the great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads...And His tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth; and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
