  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Gransfors Bruks

I also have a GF small forrest axe. It sees a lot of use and is quite handy. I can swing one handed or choke up without the handle being too long or awkward.
Does a lot of work out in the bush at home for me. Good axe. There are other axes that do a better job at some tasks...but hey, I didnt say the SFA is my only axe. ;)

I have two Gränsfors Bruks axes now . I like the American Felling axe a lot it feels really good and swings nice . Both axes I have from them seem well made .

I bought the Large Splitting axe next with the “long” handle same length as their maul at 31” Long . Swinging it yesterday splitting some wood I feel like the handle is too short for me . Which is kind of a bummer to me after spending a real nice penny on the axe .

I think I am going to look for a traditional American splitting maul head with a 36” handle instead .

I bought a sfa and I’ve really liked it for car camping and fires at home. I would definitely recommend one. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Identical head, better steel of your choice, hand forged in the USA, not a nice fit and finish on the handles but half price of the gransfors sfa.

Id consider it or the husky equivalent which actually has a more useable handle length and not outrageous price tag.

I have owned a small forest axe and sold it almost immediately after testing and realizing it was useless in most applications too thin, too light, sticks too much, too short of a handle.

It is my preferred axe for scalping from horseback. The longer handle gives you more reach and you can swipe a fallen foe with one hand by leaning low in the saddle as you swoop by. It comes sharp so it is ready for scalps right out of the box.
