Today I went by Gene Osborn's place and saw the great collection of lockbacks he has for sale. They are very beautiful working knives with a wide assortment of blades, file work, exotic woods, etc. And he has them priced very well. just thought I'd pass it along... http://www.centercross.com/millenium.htm

Well, I don't think any of these he has for sale at 20% off of 250$ have much inlay work, but I imagine that can be arranged... Nonetheless, it is amazing how much detail and top quality materials and hand work can go into a knife like these and still be pretty affordable. I am looking for just the right material for my scale release auto!

fracmeister - How was the overall fit and finish on those knives? Lockup? Blade play? I've got my eye on one...

fracmeister,
just kidding, its already been arranged and was no doubt one of the first ones out of the chute, probably undergoing some filework and inlay yet.
Senator,
have no fear, Gene's workmanship is excellent. That is why I ordered my second CenterCross. My scale release auto is superb (a really 'wicked' sharp wharncliff) with handsome red bone and filework. fit, finnish, function- all great. A craftsman and a gentleman- a pleasure doing business with him and Pat.

What's an extended tang lockback?

Well, okay, besides the obvious.

I mean, what's the purpose of the extended tang?

Nathan - thanks for the good words.

Jeff - your knife is about a week away from delivery. Sorry I got bogged down at Christmas. Thank you for your patience.

Senator - E-mail on the way about the one you have your eye on. Thanks

Ryan - (and any others interested) The back of the tang hangs out of the handle just enough to make it a one-handed design. Open with the thumb bob and press tang to release (even my wife can do it)

This is all done with one hand.
With a small allen wrench the thumb bob can be moved to the other side to make the knife left-handed. I usually do this ahead of time when I know it's needed.

Let me know if I can help any other way.
Be blessed,
Gene
