Hello friends,

Recently I have been the recipient of overwhelming kindness. I decided it was my time to sponsor another give away. This give away is only open to the traditional forum regulars. If you have no actual interest in the knife offerred, I will not be offended if you do not enter. I want this to go to someone who will appreciate it, carry and use it.

They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and while normally I am an original guy, I would like to take a note from our very own Duncan and hold a photo contest.

I will be giving my girlfriend of ten years, Katie, the agony and burden of selecting one winner.
_____________

Here are the rules:

No old photos allowed, please go out and produce NEW images.

Two types of entries will qualify you for the contest. One entry consisting of a photo of one of your favorite knives in one of your favorite spots. The second entry with no knife content, just a photo of one of your favorite spots, trying to portray something that makes it so special to you.

I ask if you shoot 50 photos of the knife please narrow it to ONE favorite. The same for the second entry. Two total entries per week only, please.

Locations do not need to be exposed if privacy is a concern, but a few words on why the spot is special to you.

_____________

Here is an example of a cell phone image of a favorite knife in one of my favorite spots. I have come to this spot since I was a child and it reminds me of my family and friends. I can zone out for hours and just have tranquility over take me. I am posting a cell picture because I want everyone to know, the entries will NOT be judged on superior equipment or technical quality as a sole factor. So please, if all you have is a cell phone, do your best with it and don't worry.

Here is an example of one of my favorite spots. My brother lived here for a few years and I would always visit him. He has always been my best friend, thus any spot that reminds me of time with him is a favorite. I also picked this as an example to show city slickers are welcome :)

Finally, here is a sterile scan of the knife up for grabs. It is a Great Eastern Cutlery Burnt Stag 73 single blade Scout knife. I bought this knife with no intentions of ever letting it go. It is VERY nice with stag that matches both in texture, color and thickness from side to side. The stag is what I consider to be the perfect thickness for the GEC 73. There is no blade play and I rate the pull at a 5-6 with a wonderful snap. This knife is mint, never used, new in tube.

I hope you all enjoy this through to the completion of the process. Thank you all for making this community what it is. I am always honored to be considered an appreciated member of this group. This will be open for at least a month and maybe more to get most of us well into warm weather and the beauty of spring.

So remember, two photos, one of the knife in your favorite spot and one of just the landscape :)

Kevin

Top notch Kev . Look forward to seeing all the great pics in this thread. I have always loved that pic of your Case/Bose knife, timeless. Thanks for the chance, ill be working on some pics for ya real soon :)

Not an entry,

but I'll post a picture of an area within walking distance of my house, which is actually in an urban area.
I am most at peace when I am close to home.

not an entry but that is a really nice looking knife! alas, i dont have any pix of favorite spots hosted right now.

What a guy! Super generous of you Kevin. I can't wait to get out and make some purdy pictures for this.

Excellent idea Kevin! This is not an entry, as the 73 is bigger than I go for. Just wanted to thank you for this, and say I am looking forward to seeing the pictures that come to us as the result of your idea.

Kevin -

If the fact that these images were not made new for the purposes of the giveaway will disqualify me, I can understand. However, I will not be back at my favorite places for some time, so I have to use existing images.

I have two favorite places that are favorite for different reasons. The first is a favorite because it is one of those stunningly beautiful places where I could marvel at the creation that we have been given. And since it was far from any trails, I didn't have to share the solitude.

The other favorite place is a favorite because I associate it with so many good memories with my family. Every year for 20 years we went camping with my wife's family, starting when our youngest child was not quite one year old. Our kids grew up camping there every year, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Last year was the first time in 20 years that we did not go there, because my brother-in-law passed away the weekend we planned to go. But we will be back there again in June. Here is a typical crazy camp scene there:

And a knife picture that I took there:

Kevin, Katie, and the rest,

My old haunt would be the Sandia foothills (Albuquerque)...I had a wonderful childhood traipsing around up there (this area is called "Whitewash.") The cliff in the picture is actually around 100' high. It's not as awe-inspiring as some views in the rest of the country but you can bet this was a wonderful 'playground' for an adventurous 12-year-old. Here is one of my favorite knives pictured along with a little reminder of home that I carry everywhere since I can't be there right now.

In my more recent Mid-Atlantic locale, here is a little spot I've found on the walk from the train station to my workplace.

Edged content!

WOW. I'm in and there will be photos to follow. I love photo comp giveaways just for the quality that comes out. Really looking forward to seeing this "pan out" (and thats camera talk btw).
Here are those pics taken today-Winifred Falls, Royal National Park -just south of Sydney. Took my boys and nephew for a hike and a "refreshing" swim.Thats two of them in the pic. we had the whole place to ourselves .It started off cold and windy but turned into a brilliant sunny day. We didn't take our togs but went for a dip anyway;) And the knife is my trusty ol Toledo Australia.

I am going to have to do the same and use an older photo (but not posted before) as I am far removed from my 'favorite place.' I'd love to win the knife, but as with lambertiana, I understand if this doesn't fit the rules and I'm glad to just contribute to the thread. Geeze man :D we "traipsed" the same playground! Whitewash holds alot of memories for me too.

Would definatly love to own the knife, absolutely stunning stag, but I won't be getting to my favorites spots for maybe another couple years so not an entry, just wanted to share some beautiful places,

Along the Colorado Springs river was always my favorite spot to hike, I stayed there for an entire month, getting to know the animals and stalking the Great Blue Heron that live there for some close up pics, they are smart birds and can sense you a long ways off, you have to be terribly sneaky to get them to pose for yah, the area around the river is always quiet, shady, with lots and lots of nature ;)

My favorite tree on that hiking trail:

I have a ton more pics but these are some of my favorites, firstly because they are the best shots of the Blue Herons up there :D

Heck of a giveaway Kevin. I have a stag single blade #73, and it's one of my favorite knives.

First of all - thank you for your contribution to this forum and thanks for this great GA.

Not an entry though. I´ve almost been the reciever of a lot of kindness here that I hope other members can get the chance on this great looking knife.

My hometown ... and the Alps in the background (unfortunatelly hardly visible)

EDIT:

This is a todays pic of my backyard - unfortunatelly not that attractive since the old house got removed and now there´s a building lot of my friends new house.
But still a nice view in some cases

Oh... I changed my mind into entry in this chance - thanks Kevin :D

Thank you for posting this, Frank, its a beautiful spot and I think I can get a great feel for it :)

I realize some of peoples favorite excursions may be in the past and future plans may be far off, but perhaps thinking as Frank has, some place close to home that is still one of your favorite spots. Somewhere you can get to and try to get a couple really great shots.

Maybe if a recent move took you to a place without a favorite spot you could find a new one but also include an older shot of your previous favorite (s) :)

Not an entry,

but I'll post a picture of an area within walking distance of my house, which is actually in an urban area.
I am most at peace when I am close to home.

This would be a perfect example of one of your favorite knives in a favorite spot, if you can get out to a new spot for a new attempt that would put you in the running for sure.

Praises for keeping up this fine tradition, Kevin! Nice knife also!!

Thank you, Charlie. I received Duncan's blessing to carry this tradition on before I made this thread. It seems fitting to keep traditions going in such a place :)

Andi, if you change your mind I would love for you to have a chance at this one. You are a great friend and your recent fortunes do not take away from you deserving a chance here, IMHO :) If you change your mind this will be open for quite a while so you can get out for new shots.

To all, I love these contributions and would like to see everyone comfortable to post their favorite spots. I don't want the thread limited in a way that folks can not share their wonderful photos of these great places BUT to qualify, and if you post older photo's, please clarify which two are the new photos that you would like considered for the winning :)

Thank you to everyone that is posting and I want to make it clear I appreciate them all but for the contest only shots that meet the original guidelines will be considered. Plenty of time and this is meant to be an enjoyable chance to get out and try to win a nice knife. Thank you to everyone who has shared their kind words :)

Kevin,
thank you so much for this thread, for keeping up Duncan's initiative, for your contribution to this forum, and for the friendship that you allowed me to develop with you. This is not an entry, but I hope I can go out this weekend and post some picture as well, just for the sake of participating :)

That might be the nicest GEC I have ever seen. This is a great challenge. I'll see what I can come up with, but my favorite places aren't around here, so I'll have to find some new ones I suppose. It helps that my sons make most new places my favorites now.

I don't have a quality camera to show you, so ill just describe the knife. Its thin, black, has a carbon steel blade, a yellow cat on the handle, and it's made in Solingen. Can you guess?
It's a K55
