Great Eastern Cutlery - More user or collectable?

Looking for advice on GEC pocketknives. All the research I've seen says they have a great fit and finish etc. What about the quality of their heat treat on the 440 and 1095? Do their blades come sharp from the factory? Are they meant to be used? How do they stack up against Case, Kershaw, Buck etc...?

Any input appreciated, as I've been more of a fixed blade kinda guy up to now.

GEC uses 440C.

Here is a review I did on the cutting performance of GEC 440C.

GEC 440C in and of itself, will outperform anything short of 154CM.
The 440C blades, with their excellent edge geometry, will outperform many 154CM blades.

For cutting performance, GEC blades will outperform any Case, any 420HC Buck, etc.

The GEC 1095 outperforms Case CV. hands down.

The GECs are nice enough that you could just collect them, but if you choose to use them they will outperform just about anything else in the park.

Thank-you everyone, and especially Knarfeng. Knarfeng, in reference to your avatar, I had the privilege several years ago at the Boeing Museum of Flight to listen to one of the original "Sled Driver's" give a speech.

I truly apprecite your thoughness and knowledge. I've always been fascinated by elephant toe blades for some reason, so I'm looking at the Whaler and Logger, I believe it is called. They remind me of a Kephart blade shape.
