Great knives are made all over the world, but I am always excited to find local makers. To name a few favorite high end producers here in Ohio: Battle Horse, Busse, Fehrman, Hinderer, LT Wright. Even more custom builders.
Where do you live and who makes knives around you? Or, can you name any cutlery districts vis a vis Alfred Marshall and his study of the Sheffield cutlery district over 100 years ago?

I'm 99.99% sure that Ramon Chavez has his shop here in New Mexico. Eddie Baca comes from here too but he isn't as well known as some other makers

To my knowledge there has never been a manufacturer of mass-produced cutlery in New Mexico, but we have plenty of custom makers.

Santa Fe Stoneworks doesn't really count as a manufacturer in my mind, but they do customize and resell large numbers of knives.

Tom Lewis is in Carlsbad.
Bob Terzuola's shop is in Albuquerque.
Michael Walker (designer of the Walker Linerlock) lives in Taos, and his custom knives are featured at a gallery there.

Chris Reeve Knives since I live in Idaho. My Girlfriend lives in Boise, so I actually got to visit his shop when I went to visit her. Handling a Sebenza there is what made me have to have one :D

I know Michigan has Tim Zowada but no production brands that I'm aware of.

Mike Snody of Aransas Pass, Texas. His style's not for everyone but he knows a thing or two about great craftsmanship.

Here in Alabama we have Esee (not manufactured here, but this is where Randall Adventure Training is, and where they are designed.), Bear and Sons, Mel Pardue (I had the opportunity to meet him once, and spoke with him for about an hour. He is a great guy), and Jim Hammond.

Not sure if there are others.

Not exactly a household name, but Jim Downs in Ohio makes some nice stuff.
Along with Darrell Ralph.
