Great multi-purpose item...packtowels.

Up here, Wally world has the Sham Wow, I never tried one but they might work very well.

(Tongue-in-cheek:D) I actually thought of using those when they came out (and I still may) The size is a little small, but yeah , I bet they may be pretty useful. A chamois is definately absorbent as heck , and might be good for drying oneself off,and a good carry in the boat.

I have one, they absorb water pretty well, but they take a long time to dry, at least for me, and I wring them out before air drying. It helps to fold the towel up a bunch of times(stretch out the fibers?) before using it to absorb water(i.e water on table or similar surface).

You guys got me thinking of buying the sham-wow towels actually. Even though I have the pack-towl, I'd like to try them. At the very least , I can use them in the house.

I always keep a towel in the truck for different things (and the occasional spilled coffee.)

In terms of the concept, I love it.

In terms the product, it leaves something to be desired. I guess I have sensitive skin, but I have a personal sized pack towel, and it chaps my skin. But, then again, I was using it to wipe away sweat. In that application, I don't like them. I think they have a application in general, and replacing large towels, but for me, that is it.

For 'personal' and regular use, you cannot beat cotton for comfort. I keep two triangular bandages with me all the time, they are muslin, which is long staple cotton. I love them. I also have some scarves that were first Gulf War period issue, they are t-shirt material, and heavenly. Or, I have a shemagh/keffiyeh, which I quite like.

Best,
Marion

I have the MSR and they are awesome. I tried the shamwow to compare and not even close. OK- but not anywhere near the MSR

I have a cheaper version of the MSR, its by Adventure Towel I think (it was $3 at mec, now they are different) and I agree, very important to have a towel. I used the mid sized one for a full summer working at a kids camp, and had great results, very few towels would be dry in a day under the conditions we had, and that towel was always dry! you just have to wring the ever living beejeezuz out of it, they hold a lot of water!

Micro Fiber Towels are much better than Shamwow. They absorb a lot of moisture and dry very quickly.
