Great new knife novel: "THE PROTECTOR" by David Morrell

Marchinko's books are good - the first one (non-fiction) is best, the next couple are pretty good but they go downhill from there IMO... The last one I read was just terrible.

any one here ever read anything by richard marcinko? Very cool dude. Yeah im gonna have to look into this morrell guy. See if my library has anything by him.
Also I reccomend Stephen Hunter, great books there.

Big Stephen Hunter fan- he's done a couple of crummy ones, but most are excellent. I really like the way he tends to tie all the Swagger books together and makes such excellent use of history and events.

I tend to agree with JGD re: Richard Marcinko- loved his writing at first, but it wore thin on me after awhile lots of violence expressed with nice easy to understand mono-syllabical terms. Still enjoy his Radio show though. :D

I read the book some time ago, my feeling is that Morrell does not know his knives well. My feeling is that he does not collect knives, but just did research for his book. Whereas Thomas Harris(Silence of the Lambs) is probably a user and collector.

Morrel is a stylish writer, his command of phrase is excellent and should serve as a model for action writers. That "Totem" book he wrote had wonderful, sparse style.

I'm writing one now. It's about a seamstress who threads her Emerson and uses it as a needle. She gets a nasty cut and goes mad and attacks the town.

My publisher sez it's "too bloody."

:D

It's called "America On Watch" comes on the weekends here in Alaska. You might be able to find more info on it here: http://www.dickmarcinko.com/

I was mildly surprised to hear him on the radio. I'd come to expect this deep, gravelly, profanity laden voice coming across the radio waves when I heard he was on, and instead found a very normal, run of the mill type of voice that having a pretty level headed conversation with his guest about the threat of terrorism in America.
