Before I let you all know exactley what knife I finally decided to purchase, I'd first like to thank everyone her at BladeForums for all the fantastic advice with regards to helping me find a good-quality blade to replace the one that was stolen from me.

Now, bear in mind that there is only one store here in town that carries a decent selection of blades, but even their stock is somewhat limited, so I didn't have access to ALL of the blades that I was considering.

I gathered up all the information, advice, and suggestions that I had collected of the last few weeks, and headed on over to "The Cutting Edge". I had a strategy in mind; to find the knife that (for me) possessed the best combination of feel, quality, value, overall aestetics, and functionality.

For upwards of two hours, I looked at the many blades offered by the Spyderco, Emerson, CRKT, MicroTech, and Benchmade lines. (Unfortunately, the store didn't carry any Buck or Schrade knives, and only stocked a few Cold Steel blades. Oh well) ...... I played with the knives OVER and OVER (I was getting the impression that the saleswoman felt as though I was wasting her time

), until I found the knife I wanted.

That blade was (insert epic drum roll for dramatic flair!) ..........

The CRKT CR-6783 Crawford/Kasper Large Fighting Folder with Combination Blade!!!

It looks to me like you made a very good, solid choice. CRKT knives are very well made, and a great value "for the money".

.

Just be sure to wipe the blade after use, so it doesn't develop any rust spots.

Terrible!!! How could you pass up an LCC?!! Just kidding. I do like the LCC but in answering your question I say you did great! I've never handled the knife that you purchased but the best knife you could have bought is the one "you" liked the best.

I was reading your post and started laughing because it sounds like you shop like me. It takes me forever to pick out exactly what I want. Drives my wife crazy (and the sales people)but when I'm done I'm usually happy because I feel that I made the right choice.

Congratulations and hope you enjoy!! Dave

I have to tell you, I just LOVE this blade .......

congratulations metal-demon.
a hundred and something posts already?!?!
again,congratulations,thats a great knife.

Good choice on your knife. You will see people say that CRKT is 'good for the money'. I am not very fond of that statement when it comes to CRKT. It seems to imply that its a cheap knife, but since it doesnt cost very much, thats ok. In my opinion, CRKT is a good knife, period. Not just good for the money, but as good as many costing 2, and sometimes even 3 times as much. Oh well, end of babbling

Enjoy your knife, you made a great choice!!

UPDATED and REVISED

Good choice, Demon. I have seen Kasper's designs in the magazines, and they are always well thought out. (I've had my eye on the Changerzuola Folded Fighter, but there is a paper mache' embargo going on in Taiwan right now.) I know you were bummed after the theft, so hang onto this one for a while! Glad to see you happy!--OKG

Well ...... like I said in my original post on this topic, I owe a great deal of thanks to all my friends here at BladeForums! You all helped me in one way or another (and continue to do so!

) to realize how wonderful the knife/blade hobby is and how rewarding it can be!!!

BTW: I'm thinking of purchasing a Cold Steel Scimitar next! I simply can't get over the wicked-looking design!!!

MD, I think you made a great choice. Two of the last production knives I bought were the CRK&T/KFF in the large and small with a plain edge. Two of the smoothest opening knives I have, the small one was my EDC for a while, and was just retired for an AG Russell 'One Hand Knife' but I still carry the KFF once in a while.

Enjoy your new knife.

M-D, don't ever forget the Rekat Sifu when looking for that next knife! It's got that "Metal" look and feel!

I love my CRKT KFF. It's the reason I got a Rekat Carnivore, Carnivore Cub, and the Sifu! Kasper and Crawford have a lot going for them in their designs of a good fighting folder. If Microtech comes out with that Amphibian, it looks like a great auto with that "metal" look and feel!

Congratulations Metal-Demon, I like the look of the CS Scimitar also. Good luck with all of your knife deals!

Great selection. I own both a large and a small CRKT KFF, both plain.

Only gripes are:

1) rust-spots developing due to bead-blast. I cannot emphasize enough to wipe your blade regularly with Tuff-cloth and giving it regular maintenance with Tuff-Glide. Those rust-spots really look ugly!

2) Heft - the large KFF feels MASSIVE in the hand due to its heft. Some people also regard it to be very uncomfortable for carrying clipped to jean pocket. I digress, since I appreciate the extra heft and don't consider it an uncomfortable carry. However, I've taken more of a liking to my Spyderco Starmate, since it is almost the same length and is a much lighter carry.

Still, the KFF rocks, and you certainly are going to feel well protected carrying that beast around. Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement! (It's nice to know that I've purchased a blade that pleases my "mentors"!)

I actually LIKE the heft of the CKFF ..... I like that the weight lets me know it's there when I need it. That is partly why I was drawn to this particular knife.

So far, so VERY GOOD!

In retrospect though, I should have went with the straight-blade rather than the combination blade, but they only had the combo. in stock, and I just couldn't wait to take her home!!!

Good choice. I got the small and it's a great knife. The large was a little bit too heavy for me to want to carry daily, but it's an impressive knife. I think you're gettin' hooked.

Atta boy, M-D.

Fine job in playing around with the blades until you found what you wanted. NEVER settle on a blade just because "the salesperson was starting to look annoyed". If you go in and take up 2 hours of their time without buying, then that is stretching it. But if you go in carrying your cash in a quick draw holster with intent-to-buy, you take your own sweet time and find just what you are after.

Drives my wife crazy too. (not so bad as the book store, but bad enuff.)

Ya done good, Demon.
