Great video

Love it. I'm about half way through right now, but I gotta say, that old man is a HOSS!! Wonder how much that one piece of runner wood weighed before he split it? It doesn't even phase him when he carries it from the truck to his shop! He makes it look effortless.

This is one of the reasons I love bladecraft. It's very similar to what this gentleman is doing in that it is an art not many pursue now days. That's why I'm absolutely itching to get into forging. To experience the craft more closely to the way it's been done for centuries (with the modern conveniences of course :) ).

Cool video Sam. They sound like Vermonters.

On a side note: I tried to PM you and your box is full. Lets talk about the LI ferry!

Very cool Sam!

I have "The Workshop Book" and it outlines many woodworkers shops throughout the country. Ben's shop is in the book. It immediately caught my eye as it showed a full blacksmith's shop along with all of the amazing woodworking equipment.

I bought that book about 10 years ago, but that hard as nails 'ol man was immediately recognized.

So cool! Thanks Sam! :)

Sam you do some of the neatest research and find some of the coolest stuff! Thanks for posting this. It is a real heart warmer!!!

Having grown up in NH it was even more moving for me. Of course Vermonters don't think of NHonians as true Yankees. Indeed, anyone not from Vermont is typically considered a flat lander. My Dad told me about a obit in a Vermont newspaper years back. Seem a fellow died in his nineties. It was reported he lived in Vermont his whole life after having moved there as an infant when he was two months old. The revealing statement of the classic Vermonter was something like, "even though he wasn't one of us...we'll miss him."

I love how quiet everything in his shop is. Quiet and mesmerizing, like old sewing machines.

Yeah Mace, "they sound like Vermonters".
Though not all Vermonters sound like that.
But the attitude is typical.
I've been around, but love it here, was born here and will die here...later...MUCH!

I watched the whole thing excellent video. The ole times art will be lost if it wasnt for the invention of video. Thanks kellyw

"So what do I owe ya fa that?"

"Oh, prolly a buck and a half."

Ben's cost of living must have been pretty slim in those days. :)
