Mrs Pit has been suffering with a virus recently and being the kind of girl who likes to share, was kind enough to pass it onto me,so I woke up feeling pretty rough this morning !

I decided to try and sweat some of it out by going on one of my tougher hikes.

It starts off easy enough, pretty level with nice shade......

And then it starts to get gnarly......

What do ya mean you can't see the trail !!!!!

Anyway after much sweating up steep loose scree we were rewarded by the great views....

This was all the kit I carried today, the little Stainless bowl was from a pet shop and I believe is for cats, it fits in my pocket perfectly so I can give the dogs a drink and can also be used for me to boil water in if required !

Some more views....

Just as I was about half way back to the parking lot I felt an intense pain that made my leg buckle ! Now I've been stung by plenty of Bee's and Wasps before but none ever hurt like this !!!!
Here is a pic of the culprit, must be a mutant wasp to hurt like that....maybe I'll turn into a superhero tonight !!!!

And a poor shot of the mark he left on my leg.....

Needless to say I made sure he won't be stinging anyone else !!!!!!

Man, I never get tired of looking at the breath taking photos of Vancouver Island!

That wasp sting was worth the view IMO! Not sure if I would feel that way if it were I that was stung....

---------I agree with tony!!!

Always love your photos Pit

Nice pics...thanks for sharing. The "Mutant Wasp" looks like a Balf Faced Hornet to me...and I know first hand they their stings hurt, bad.

P.S. Hope you recover soon  (from the virus, not the bee sting :p)

The adventures of Waspit and the Tiny Terror.

Great pics, Pit. Amazing views, must be nice to get to go there all the time, eh?

Awesome pics as always Pit! Keep us updated on any mutating body parts...like if ya grow wings or giant multifaceted eyes or something else really cool!

Looks like a difficult hike but worth every minute

The adventures of Waspman ... BZZZZZZZZZZZ

Interesting creatures. I captured a bald faced hornet a few days ago and studied him for a while. Catching him was less exciting than letting him go!

Van Island is the place to be. I spent many of my childhood summer holidays there. Now I am here in rainy northern germany..

But your great pictures make my day! (night).

Thanks for that and best regards,

l.

Perhaps you need some lessons from Brian.
I WISH I had my camera with me. I am gonna go back and try to find the thing I just cut with my Fox River. This is a story of scary sharp! Did you know that the Fox River is better than an insect swatter? I was outdoors, and had the knife in my hand, when a bee came up near me. I finally got annoyed and flicked my hand with the Fox River at the bee. I heard and felt a little tap, and then was AMAZED -- the bee was sliced in half in the air and both halves went falling to the ground.

Wow. Just Wow. :thumbup::thumbup::cool:

Beautiful pics as always Pit! Killer views! I agree with the others, it looks like you got stung by a hornet. They hurt like a son of a gun! I swear those things take a good flying start and go stinger first at full speed.

Awesome pics!

I hope you and Mrs recover quickly from the virus and hope that sting doesn't give you any problems.

Indeed. Those suckers are huuuggggeee. And mean to boot! I believe there was a thread started a while back (a month or so) trying to identify the mentioned Hornet. I would definitely stay away from them at all cost :p lol

Fantastic photos as always Pit! I love the views from up there....I can just look at the pics over and over again.

Stings can also hurt differently depending on where you are stung. I stepped on a hornet once and it stung me in the center of the bottom of my foot. I didn't go to work the next day because I couldn't get my boot on. I got stung by a wasp once right on a major vein in my calf and got REALLY ill from it, and both of those hurt worse than any other stings I've had... and I've had several.

I got an unprovoked sting from a hornet like that on a hike a couple of years ago. Just walking along down a hill, minding my own business and all of a sudden it feels like someone jabbed a hot poker into my calf. I didn't take any pics. . . I swatted the culprit, then took off down the trail at a quick pace in case he had any buddies with similar ideas. It looks like you got it in about the same place I did, Pit. . . Right above the top of the sock. I've got a little divot of a scar there still.
