I started a thread asking the hogs their advice about which 1911 I should buy and I got a bunch of great advice.

Well. before I could heed any of this great advice, a friend of mine offered to sell me a Stainless Steel Colt Combat Commander for three hundred bucks. I couldn't let this one get away!!!! The pistol is all original and it's in great shape. It doesn't look as if it was shot very much.

I was going to post before and after pics after I got some work done to it, but being that it is so minty and original, I was thinking that maybe I should leave it "as is" and not turn it into another "tactical" 1911.

Leave it alone or modify????? That is the question. I went ahead and posted some pics for all the pic-hungry hogs out there!!!!

only thing I would do if it wasn't already was some trigger work to smooth it up. Nice snag.

As far as custom work goes, it really depends on what you want it in the end. If you like it as is, I'm not so sure that I would have anything done to it. Also, keep in mind that if you are ever going to resell it, it is very very hard to get out of the sale the money you put into a gun with custom work.

I have a SA Ultra Compact that I was planning on having some custom work done to when I got it. But to tell you the truth, I have been so happy with the gun as bought that I haven't had anything done to it.

Maybe with yours, I might have a professional look at it just to make sure everything is in tip top shape (or not) and then decide from there.

very nice! looks like you're all set, got any leather for it?

here's another colt pic....

Congrats rjd!

I'd slap some snakeskin scales on her and head for the range. Run a box or so through her and see how she feels to you.

This evening I was telling a LEO friend of mine about your deal and his jaw dropped when I told him the price. He's been looking for a .45 but hasn't got a lot of $$$ to spend. He needs a friend like yours. :)

Nice Snake. Nickel or Ultimate Stainless?

RJD, Are you sure that is stainless? It looks very much like satin nickel.

I am not sure exactly. I do know that it is not the light weight version.

I am not that knowledgeable about the older model Colts. I think it is Stainless Steel with a satin nickel finish.

Had to throw in mine :-D
As for modding your 1911, i'd say grab some Wilson or McCormick mags, shoot the heck out of it then decide if you wanna do anything

I would not modify one thing on the CC, I would sell it for as much money as can be had and then buy a full size 1911 and do some work on it.
