If there is anybody out there who knows anything about a green beret commemorative X5 or X6 , I would appreciate the information they had on it. I cannot find anything out about them. All I know is they are 440 stainless steel and they are awesome knives. I have never heard of Saburo- Japan. Anybody? Much appreciated.

Welcome to Bladeforums!

I guess Rat never heard of them. :D Neither did I ... I guess they're knives. "440 stainles steel" generally refers to 440A, not the latest and greatest. Do you have any links to pictures or information about them?

I believe that would be the Maxam Commemorative Green Beret :barf:

I think you might have a difficult time finding MAXAM affecionados in these forums

I luckely don' know anything about that knife

Well, I sure have.
It's one those commercial commemoratives.
Made sometime in the late 1980's or sometime in the early 90's.
It was a sheath fix bowie knife with some saw back serrations and had a novel pivot that allowed the blade to fold over and lock at 90 degrees thus converting the unit in to a punch knife.
Believe the other metal parts were lead or zinc based.
Later there were rip offs from China

Hmmm...
See I know nothing about these knives , they are really neat. My cousin gave me one and I also bought one on ebay. I would assume they are rare because I cant find ANYTHING on them. Is there anything else you could tell me about them? Like how many different kinds were made . The ones I have are totally different , one with a curved regular blade, and the other with a tang edge.

Far as I can tell, I saw only one basic design with customer options for the chrome mirror polish version or dead serious commando black!
There really is or was a Japanese knife maker called Saburo, but if you ask me he probably only designed the knife and not hand made every commemorative just like Gil Hibben would.
I believe it originally retailed somewhere between $25 - $35 way back then.
It was made in Japan after all.

The one with the tang edge is the X6 and the other one is the X5.
Does anyone know how many kinds were made?
And if so where I could find the others?

Swap meets are your best bet, although you might need a time machine if they don't make them any more. I am afraid they are pretty far down on the low end of the scale.

It's more likely a later Chinese copy, with "Best Defense Knife" etched clearly upon the blade's side/profile. It was something from Tomahawk Brand (of the old United Cutlery). Thank god it's been discontinued!
Couldn't find any pictures of it; but in this group picture of el cheapo knives, one can just about make out the brass colored guard and butt with it's cheap plastic sheath - that's the 3rd knife from the top left.
