It should be rougher, since its canvas micarta; whereas, the grey micarta on the black bladed models is linen micarta, which is inherently smoother, than canvas.
One of the reasons I prefer canvas micarta.

We are in the process of making a change and start shipping an extra screw already in the tension hole at the knife edge side of the sheath. You would not believe how many folks email us saying there is a screw missing (they never read the instructions). To make things less complicated on those who don't read instructions (or those from Alabama and Mississippi who just can't read period), we're going to add another screw and that way they will have a spare screw (even though those who don't read the instructions will think the screw in the spine side of the sheath is necessary and not a spare).
The RC-4 in desert is a nice piece, IMO.
