Hey all! New guy here (sorta, been lurking for a few years) but just started making blades on my own as a hobby. I used to work for a certain very well known douchebag high volume custom knife manufacturer.
Here's a couple pics of my first fixed blade (that is currently out for heat treat) and my first friction folder. Both feature S30V steel, hollow ground by hand on a 2x72 grinder. On the folder I acid etched the blade, then lightly stonewashed for a kinda marble appearing finish, then I electro etched my last name and my state in the hollow area. The back spacer doubles as a lanyard attachment point. Let me know whatcha think!

They both look good. I really like the style of the fixed blade. I have 3 similar to it I'm doing right now but without the clip point. Also it doesn't look like your first time on a grinder so I'm assuming you did more than paper work at your last job? Anyway, what kind of handle are you going to do on the fixed blade? Be sure to post some pics of the finished product and welcome!

Actually I'm a machinist, never even used the grinder before, the fixed blade was my first time ever doing a blade grind. I'm gonna use some thin red liners and thick carbon fiber slabs to finish it off. Sheath will be kydex.

This is the blade that donated itself for the friction folder. Just broke like that.

Well I'm a little jealous, that grind on the fixed blade is straight as a string. Is it hollow ground also? If so, what size wheel?

The folder I used a 10" wheel for the hollow grind, the fixed I used a 8" wheel. Took a little time to get it right. But a little dykem layout dye and scribe lines and it wasn't too tough.

You must be from either the boise area or the couerdelane (sp) area. nice to see another idaho knife maker on here

Yep I'm very near Boise. Meridian to be exact. Let me guess, you're also part of the CRHC? The C____ R____ Haters Club

Here's pics of my latest fixed blade to come back from heat treat, S30V, thinking of leaving it gold and doing the handle in carbon fiber or I'm gonna acid etch and do carbon fiber with paper thin red liners... Decisions, decisions...

I've had this one finished for a while. Finally putting it up for sale I think, need to make some cash for other projects.

Thank you! I wanted to be different with the fixed blade so I opted for the 'as heat treated' gold look, as opposed to doing acid etch or stone wash on the whole blade. If it doesn't sell for a while I may change that and finish to match the folder's blade.

Well I built a 2x72 grinder from junkyard parts, a 2x8 rubber on aluminum caster wheel, and a treadmill. I used the treadmill speed controller and all. Here's the first produce from the creation steel is S30V, handle will feature a thin blue line and blade will be acid washed with rest of handle being titanium color carbon fiber:

My first hidden tang while waiting on the S30V fighter to come back from heat treat. This was a very old Nicholson File farrier rasp, 1095 I believe. Just got the rough grinds finished. Also made this one with my junkyard 2x72 treadmill grinder.
