Greetings everyone!
Long time lurker, first time poster. I have been mulling around the idea to get a "Larger bushcraft/survival/all around bad-ass knife" for a while now. I have always been a fan of the Becker knives. Never could decide on which one & to get. Always going back and fourth between BK9 and the BK2... Well I have always been a fan of Kukri style knives, So when I saw the BK4, it was love at first sight! My BK4 arrived in the mail today, and I am extremely impressed. My question for you fine gentlemen(& Lady's) is, What is the best way to go about sharpening it? It came with a pretty good working edge, but I wouldn't mind it a little sharper. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

My new baby(no name for her yet)!!

MACHAX!

Thats a fine start in Beckerland! Even got a pic up without getting yelled at first LOL

Welcome to the fray

Can't help you with sharpening, brother... every time one of my Beckers gets dull, I just buy another one.

Just wanted to say hello to another Arizonian. I'm taking something sharp (haven't decided which yet) up north tomorrow a.m. to my place in Flagstaff to get away from the heat. I'll raise a bottle in your direction while I'm up there.

@ Thrillbilly Thanks for the welcome! Yeah I've seen the "Pics or it didn't happen" posts!
@BRL Enjoy your trip up to Flag, I am in Prescott, next week gonna head up to the Rim and do a little camping! Give the new blade a work-out!

Welcome to the Show Eric Doom!
You did a wise thing by putting up a pic on your first post. (*New guys take note.)
That Machax is a hell of a blade, huh.
Havn't had to sharpen mine yet. But a know a few members who sharpen them on a belt sander.
I'll probably just hit mine with ceramic rods when the time comes.
Congrats on the fine BK-4!

Welcome to the forum Eric Doom:cool::thumbup:

I want a Machax so bad I can taste it, but my knife buying has to coexist with my knife making supplies buying. Great first post; Welcome to the forum... and the sickness!

Welcome Eric! I expect to see some pics of that beast in action!
Good to see another Arizonan on the site. I'm hailing from Goodyear.

Love my BK4 too. Welcome!

There are a few of us here from AZ. Myself, azwelke, GODSPEED, and some others. Where about are ya from?

Here's a pic of my BK4 from a few weeks ago up by Woods Canyon Lake... a bit north of Payson.

Damn a bk4 for your first becker? Thats like losing your virginity to Jenna Jameson...congrats.

Nice to see other folks from AZ here. :)

I recently required a BK14, so I've entered the BK waters in what appears to be the "usual" way, small to start. I'm sure that'll change eventually, LOL.

welcome to the forum, Machax is an awesome becker, one of many on my "to buy" list

Well hot damn!
Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm from Holbrook originally, I currently reside in Prescott. Good to see some fellow barbarians from the southwest.
Uncle Malice are you carving some sort of bludgeon? Looks fit to cave in the head of any giant foolish enough to come to close to your camp.
Azwelke your kydex sheath for the bk4, I must have one! Looks pretty badass if I may say so myself. Also is the "Becker-fever" a common affliction? I am already trying to pick out the one I want to order next...:D

Ha! Actually that piece ended up being nothing.. I was going to split it and try to use it to carve out a bow drill set... but it was too uneven and knotty to do much of anything with. My buddy that was with me made fun of that picture and said it looked like I was carving out an African fertility statue. :D

Very yes. Sounds like you've been infected with the BK-1095 Virus. At present, there is no known cure. You will live out your remaining days craving the acquisition of additional sharpened steel items. You will likely infect anyone else that comes into contact with your possessions.

Someone should have warned you ahead of time...

Also, get the Doug Ritter/Becker collaboration blade... the Ritter RSK MK2 'Perseverance' (BK12). It's a little more expensive as it's made by Rowen(same guys that make ESEE) and not KA-BAR. It's sold excusively at KnifeWorks.com -- You can thank me later. :)

Also, do yourself a favor and spend the money to get the micarta grips for all of your Becker blades. It seems pricey... but it's very worth it. I usually order from the-knife-connection... but if Dale is out, you can order from Tomar's KaBars. I like that TKC has free shipping, so it saves a couple dollars.

Enjoy the blade. Get out there and get it dirty!
