Grimloc Carabineers?

A while back I bought a bunch of stuff from County Comm, including a few of their Grimloc Carabineers. Much as I appreciate the cool aspect of these, I am at a loss to find any practical use for them. They don’t seem to be a practical replacement for more traditionally shaped carabineers; a bit too bulky for pocket carry and I don’t want to carry any items clipped my shoulder bag or belt that will break away. That “break away factor” might be practical for some military applications, but as a City Guy (in a relatively peaceful city) I am not sure there’s any benefit.

Like I said, I find them cool looking, well made and probably worth the price. Just can’t figure out what to do with them! Guess this qualifies me as a certified gadgeteer!

Anyway, I am curious: Anybody find a practical application for these babies? Any EDC use?

They really are made to go on MOLLE ladders, where they hold in place well. I have the County Comm 3-day bag, for example, with MOLLE inside some pockets, making the grimlocks handy for organizing some gear.

They are now carrying the Tactical LInk, which is a plastic carabineer in the old style, with a spring-loaded gate.

Funny this came up
I was just thinking of a way to attach a small
pouch to a Maxpedition Bottle Holder that I could
remove easily.
What I wanted was like a small psk with my gps that I could remove and take with
if I didnt need the whole bottle kit.
I remembered I bought those grimlocks and tried it.
Holds the pouch, easy to remove BUT
the little pouch just dangles there.
I have it just hanging on 1 grimlock now.
I might have to put a velcro strap through one
of the bottom webbing straps to hold it from swinging,
yet easy to remove.

The Grimlock does fit on the webbing, its just hard to get it in there.

OK, I just posted them on the "Trade" forum; with luck I will find someone who indeed has a use for them and will give me something I'll find a bit more useful.......... or less useless?

I use them on my Jumbo, added a 1.5 inch spit ring to it and it works as a key holder (my key fob is a Buck Hartsook) also as an improvised water bottle holder with some 2mm cord.

If your not climbing, I'm not sure why you would want a caribiner other than the kershaw one, and even than that's a stretch. I should mention that I do use a caribiner for one thing. Rock and Tree climbing. I carry a caribiner in my pocket in case I need to repel down from a tree using parachord and carabiner. It's never been needed though.

I personally find Grimlocs incredibly useful. I've used them to:

hang a flashlight (with lanyard) on a bar in a shady-looking unlit bathroom in a third-world country.
make a belt buckle for a paracord belt.
attach the belt loop of my sunglasses pouch to some webbing on the strap of my backpack.
secure my steel water bottle to my backpack when running (to keep it from falling out of the pouch).
suspend a sleeping bag roll from my backpack on a 4-point paracord harness (used as QRs so I could detach the roll to stuff it in the overhead compartment of an airplane).

And I've forgotten many others. In fact, I have a small roll of paracord (in one of those storage sinnet rings) and 2 Grimlocs in my backpack at all times, just in case.

So, they're mostly useful with a backpack, but man, are they useful.

Ah, now there is a reason to hang on to my Grimloc's.............

Still being offered for trade on the "Trade" forum....... maybe someone will offer some parachord................

You definitely don't want them for that, unless you enjoy falling out of trees. :)
