Grimsmo Rask rattles in closed position.

how loud of a rattle, i just took out my two and if I shake them next to my ear there is a very slight rattle noise when they are closed, I am talking very slight only heard very close to my ear and then only when shook by the flat side. Honestly I never heard this until you mentioned it and it was right next to my ear, held in only one direction closed. Seems like nothing to me.
It's loud enough to hear away from your ears. I only noticed it when I put the knife down and heard the rattle when it contacted the surface. I as like, is that the clip? lol. It's loud.

Appreciate all the replies guys, thank you :)

I'll probably take it apart today after work. I think i'm still kind of in this annoyed phase of getting it, dealing with this and I know the date thing is trivial but it dog piled on.
I'm just hoping it is something silly because I really don't wanna deal with sending this back over the boarder.

I wonder if it could be the bearings rattling slightly against the frame? I’ve noticed a couple Zero Tolerance knives that did the same thing right out of the box, but after putting a drop of oil in the pivot it seemed to go away completely.

that is my thought as well

The date thing is a non-issue and you should not let it bother you. Parts are machined in batches. It's not like they make one set of handles, then one blade, then put it together before starting on the next knife. It is not at all surprising to hear that the handles were machined a couple months before that particular knife was finished.

Really appreciate the all the comments and thoughts everyone, thank you.
So Grimsmo reached out and said to put some oil in the holes where the stop pins go. Said it was probably missed during assembly (Can't see how) and that seemed to solve the problem. Curious what happens as the drop of oil dissipates over time but its fine now.
Thanks again everyone :)

good to hear, was an easy fix.

As you carry and use the knife, a little pocket lint, dust, whatever will collect in the small crevices of the knife and should fill the void and you should be ok, they’re made to relatively maintenance “easy”, not free, break it down once a year, if that.

Mine came absolutely perfect in all respects. It’s as smooth as my 25 year old Seneza. Zero rattle.

I would do as others said. Take it apart and reassemble. Contact Grimsmo if there is a continued issue.
How did this resolve?
The scales are processed together left an right and are date and time stamped when the milling is completed. The blade would be a separate milling.
Are you considering selling it? Returning it? Or did you find the issue on dissasembly?

Resolution above in post #28

Same here. Usually just to see how they work and to clean and lube if necessary.
Glad to hear that was a simple fix on a beautiful knife!

Toker,

I’ve been thinking about picking up a Rask for a while, but was a little leery because of the blade steel. I just didn’t know if the RWL-34 stuff was going to hold an edge for a decent amount of time. It sounds like you actually use your knife, and I was wondering what you (or veritas veritas ) thought of the edge retention so far?
Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I own the knife. I have a friend that owns one and have handled it. But I own a lot of other knives and take them all apart.

For the RWL-34 steel, it should be similar to 154CM. A decent steel that should be easy to sharpen.

No worries. In the video you said, you carried the knife a lot and used it at work, so I guess I just thought it was yours, so that’s why I asked.

For what’s its worth, I’ve carried mine for about 2 years now and it keeps and incredible edge!!! Highly highly recommend getting one, so well made, lightweight, extremely tight tolerances, thin but comfortable and action is outstanding. Only downside is lockbar death lock if you place your finger with any pressure on the lockbar while trying to flip it open. I’d still give it a 9/10 and one of the best overall EDC knives I’ve ever owned.

Sorry, that wasn't me in the video. It was just someone's disassembly video that I found via Google for that knife.

Sorry! I have no idea what made me think that was actually you.

Thanks for posting the video. After watching it I was absolutely blown away by the level of detail in their knives!

John Phillips John Phillips Thanks for the info!
Also, you may already be aware, but you can pick these up regularly and like new or gently used condition here on the forum for somewhere between $600 and $700 if you don’t want to spend over $1000 for a new Rask.
