Pardon my ignorance, but does reference to an angle degree refer to one side of the blade or the sum of both, i.e., 10 degree bevel mean 10 degrees per side?

When referring to sharpening angles it is usually inclusive. A 30 degree bevel is 15 on each side.

I see people talk about it both ways so you have to be careful to figure out what they mean. Normal knives are sharpened at 30 to 40 or more degrees inclusive. Some people pay with much smaller angles, so you might find someone that says 20 degrees and means 20 degrees inclusive, not 20 degrees per side. If you are saying it yourself, it is better to always say "__ degrees per side" or "__ degrees inclusive".

This is exactly correct. You must specify whether or not its inclusive, but if its not specified as inclusive then it generally means per side. Ie: 23 degree angle would be 23d each side, with an inclusive angle of 46 degrees.

Thank you! Yes, we should start some sort of petition. IF and WHEN discussing angles on knives, you MUST include whether you are referring to inclusive or exclusive angles. Why it is that people DON'T is beyond me. Which is it, for crying out loud? I'm supposed to read their mind or something?

Especially when discussing Pukkoo knives and zero grinds. Good night, it's like no one can utter the words that will let the reader know what the hell they're talking about.
