Grind is WAY off

Snellvilleblade, though it is kind of an immediate let down for your first CRK experience, I wouldn't be too disappointed, as Ernie1980 said, if you can send it to CRK, it will come back most likely as if you ordered a new knife - free of anybody else's "touching up" or "fiddling". Mike (Unless you are confident enough to clean the edge up yourself.)

out of curiosity what is CRK charging you $30.00 for? All it needs is to reprofile the blade, a relatively simple and common task.

This is what CRK stated on their price list...
1)Return blade to original finish(excluding damascus) $30
2)Fixed blade re-coating $27.50

Those are the only two that has anything to do w/ blade

Update....Someone contacted me via email and claimed to be HALO V. The email address is not the same email he uses during our buy transaction. Anyway, he felt really bad about what happened and offers to pick up any fee from CRK to get the blade fix. It's nice of him if it's true. Will update.

Why is it expected that CRK fix something for free that they are not at fault for? If they choose to fix something for free then that is great, but an expectation for them to do so when it is the customer's fault is unfair to them.

Simple, because nothing is broken, it just needs to be resharpened, which as stated on the CRK website under the FAQ page "We will sharpen any knife we have made free of charge. We ask only that you pay for the return shipping." I thought that would have been obvious.

And just for those that missed it, there are some good info on that FAQ

ALSO...and this is not directed to Snellvilleblade or anyone, just a general comment, it is good to speak to the maker first about any problem. I like to think more people would take the BUSSE Combat approach:

I had the same problem with a spyderco tanto blade. I just assumed that these are simply imperfect machine made knives that don't cost a whole heck of a lot. I NEVER have this problem with Busse, Rat etc. Eventually I traded it away at a gun and knife show in Ft Myers, FL RHW

They will sharpen the knife for free. This blade needs reprofiling/rework. Two different things.
Noone should expect that their carelessness in sharpening should be rectified by the manufacturer on the manufacturers dime.

My apologies, I guess I was completely out of line.

I would spend 45 dollars on a sharpening system, like a belt sander and a couple belts.

Once you get a powered sharpening system, reprofiling is easy as touching up an edge on a stone is. Literally you can take a chefs knife with half an inch broken off the tip and repair and sharpen the knife in less than 10 minutes.

As long as you know what you are doing, you may be able to get away with this.
Unfortunately for many, putting these things together most often ends up in poor grinds, burnt blades and ruined heat treat.
Only the Crazy or the Foolish will sharpen a $400 knife on a belt sander.

I don't have the knowledge or courage to reprofil/rework this blade. If it was a $40 knife...yeah no problem. Not a CRK. I'll already boxed it and will sent it out tomorrow. Thanks again for all the commments/advises

I have sharpened knives worth at least twice that on a belt sander.....a vairable speed belt sander with a high grit belt though. That said you know full well I'm crazy, foolish and more. :p

I have seen knives that were indeed ruined by using the likes of a wood working sander that looked like may as well have been sharpened with a chainsaw so care is to be taken and the right tools used.

Just how much would you like to pay for your Chris Reeve Knives?
Unconditional warranties are nice things to have, but they are not free.
Why do you think Busses cost as much as they do?
Most companies stand by their product and offer warranties against defects in manufacture and many offer full warranties against breakage during normal usage. If one wants a guarantee against idiocy and abuse.....well that kind of warranty costs money. Money most often built into the cost of the product in order for the company to be able to offer such a great deal.

My post is a recommendation to contact the maker first with any problem/concern/question about the product etc. Nothing to do with price, abuse or how either company warrant their product.

In the real world, you can't tell how much work a knife needs until you have it in hand. Send it in, you will be treated fairly.

UPDATE: A lot of you recommended to send my knife back to CRK so they can fix the grind. That's what i did. So I got my knife back from CRK a couple of weeks ago. All i can say is ....."I'm disappointed" I posted the "before" pictures in the previous post. Here are the "after" pictures.
As you can see...the grind is still asymmetrical

I emailed CRK after received the knife because i was disappointed w/ the result. Their response was "their tech did the best they could to fix it"

Oh, and the lock up is worst then before. It's like 80% now instead of like 50%.
Also it's hard to flip it open but that will probably get better if i continue to use it (which i won't)

Advise please.

I'm not too impressed with CRK's sharpening, even on new knives - but this seems out of the ordinary for sure.

This is a good time to purchase a proper sharpening system and fix it yourself. You'll be better served over the course of your life if you learn how to put the edge on that you want.
