Grind my Bravo-1 thumb ramp off for me?

I don't know if this should be in the tinkering/wanted subforums instead, but I know lots of you guys have modded Bravo-1's so I figured it'd be worth a shot to make my request here.

I love my Bravo-1 as is, but I've suspected for a while that I might love it even more if the thump ramp were ground off, especially after seeing pics of the modded bravo-1's of you other W&SS members (gunknifenut, cliff nieporte :)).

I don't have the tools for the job though, so, anyone willing to grind it off for me if I mail it to you?

Thanks!

I just smacked myself in the forehead; I should have thought of that option. Thanks HT.

Edit: Still open to other options if turnaround time would be faster, I'd compensate you for your time and pay shipping of course.

Don't get me wrong, it's not horrible and I actually don't prefer one look over the other; it just doesn't feel quite right for me when I use my thumb to put pressure on the spine. I think I have average sized hands, but the point/tip of the ramp sorta jabs into my thumb sometimes. And I don't really use the jimping to strike my firesteel; i've found that i prefer flat edges (the spine) for that. Perhaps I should just knock down the tip of the ramp instead of of eliminating it completely, just smooth that edge over. But then I might as well just take the whole thing off, since I don't think it provides any extra benefit in control.

In any case, it hasn't really bugged me that much yet. Perhaps I'll wait until I get my second Bravo-1 and have the ramp taken off that one instead :)

First of all..Mike can do it better than me..BUT..I can do it faster...IF you want..I can do it for you. I dont mind at all. I have 5 knives at Bark River for about 3 months now..getting makeovers. I actually love grinding steel:D
I am actually on the market for another Bravo1 so that I have a spare..not that I will ever need it...but man..I cant stop carrying the darned thing! Its getting to the point were I might actually start selling off the rest of the collection. I never use them other than some quick testing (well, there is a couple that I reach for more than that..but)
Anyway. If you want to send it to me..I can take off the ramp and remail it pretty quickly..On the understanding that I am not a master knifemaker..and it might not be perfect! I keep the knife cold, and take my time. Gene

Mike will do it for sure, but it might be gone for several weeks or maybe even months.

When I bought my second Bravo from DLT, they sent it back to Mike to grind off the ramp, he sent it back to DLT, then they sent it to me. No extra charge. Took less than a week. I'm sure Knives Ship Free could do the same.

How is that possible? I dont want a Feedback or Whine and Cheese thread move to happen...but It takes months for my work to get done??? So if I go through a dealer I get the treatment huh???
Anyway..removing the ramp is the best thing I have done to one of my knives...I love the knife now..while before the ramp was removed...It was only a "cool" knife to own.

Usually stuff like this doesn't take long. They turn it right around. Sometimes things do get bogged down.

They do the thumb ramp all the time.

FWIW, you can order a Bravo-1/2 from Mike witheh thumb ramp removed as they make it up.

To my warped mind, that is the obvious way it ought to be made! :D

What's with all the thumb ramp hate? I like it on mind.

I got a kick out of that one, Pilot.

- Thumb ramp hate: TRH
- Thumb ramp dislike: TRD
- Thumb ramp love: TRL
- Thumb ramp removal: TRR

What is society coming too when we harbor so much hate for our thumb ramps?

Haha, indeed!

I think I'll call the man himself first to get an estimate of the turnaround. If it's a week or two, I'll send it in; if he's busy and says it might be longer, I'll send you a PM Gene and take you up on your offer:thumbup:

Then, if I really like it without the thumbramp, I'll specify the next one to be without the thumb-ramp like Grampa suggested :)

Thanks for responses guys:thumbup:

edit: what I really need to do is just suck it up and get a belt sander :)

RK-- you should bring it on down and we can both give it a shot, either at my house on my little 1 x 30 or maybe, if we're lucky, at Ban's shop...:)
plus, i want to check out that Jim Reher knife you got recently...:D

Sounds like a good plan Mike, if I can't get it into BRKT for a quick turnaround I'll let you or Gene know.:thumbup:

right on man.. i'll keep you posted on our next gathering.. or just drop me a line when you want to roll down to S.C...

Thanks and will do Mike  I leaning towards meeting up with you to try it out ourselves, I don't want to add to BRKT's to-do list if I don't need to :)
