grind turns downwards towards the edge on filing jig

Hi,

I'm making my first knife using O2 tool steel and I'm running into an issue using my filing jig. I want to make the first few knives by hand and not use any power tools, to learn as much as possible from it. The grind turns downwards towards the edge and I'm trying to fix that. I'm probably making a rookie mistake but I have no idea what to search for so be gentle :)

Look for gough custom's videos. Try rolling the file once you get to the end. You'll have the tip squared off if you keep the way you're going by the looks of it.

When watching Aaron's video pay special attention to how and where he applies pressure with the file.

This is a natural outcome of the jig. It is corrected/avoided by "cheating" - i.e. by taking advantage of the flex in the system. If all components were 100% rigid, this outcome would be unavoidable.

Use a more roll off motion near the tip of the blade... Not an upward stroke so much, keeping your file flat.
In your case I would bring you grind up a little farther starting at the plunge and don't touch the tip area. Than start the new motion.
Yes it's cheating but your still keeping the same plane as the rest of the blade.

I've stopped grinding the tip actually. I was already expecting people to point that out. Still, it's my first blade, I'm happy I can learn from this :).

The issue I'm mostly having is on the left side of the image.

I made the jig by following Aaron's video.

I've put a nice blue triangle where the problem is:

Roll you file into that area concentrating pressure from the file on the left side.
I will even out.
Listen to Aron in the video he explains this.

After several tries I've sort of got a technique now to solve the issue. Thank you guys for the help.

I'm trying to make a knife that looks and handles perfectly. I doubt I will succeed but I'm trying (maybe I'll get there 50 knives from now). I hope I'm done with the filing stage as soon as possible so I can go to the sanding stage. Already have two colors of cotton laying around to make micarta with. Just need to search for the best epoxy and I'll make my own knife handles. So far it's a pretty fun thing to do and I can really feel my shoulder and neck muscles. I'm also finding out that the technique I started with, about 10 hours ago, was totally wrong. I might have the same conclusion in a few hours though :P. I also need to research the options for doing the heath treatment myself in a suburban environment.
