i'm looking into getting some tools for knife making and found this grinder on craigslist. the owner doesn't seem to know a lot about it and i was wondering if anyone here might recognize, and know if it might be suitable.

Meh, for around that price you can get a nice brand new 2X72" Coote with 10" contact wheel. Find a good used 1 1/2 HP TEFC motor and add a couple 3-step pullies and you'll be set. Then add a ceramic glass platen on top of the stock on and you'll have an awesome machine! :D

Of course you'll get many many different opinions about making your own and saving up a little more to get this or that grinder (which I think is the way to go: buy once, cry once) but I'm just showing ya a great grinder for around the same price that the one you're lookin at is being sold for.

edited to add: yay my 500th post! :triumphant: ;)

Raighan, he's had that grinder for sale for quite a while. It's much too limited compared to what you can built for nearly that money. Lot's of makers in the Portland area...I'm sure there are those of us who wouldn't mind having you over to let you look at a homemade grinder to see if it's something you might want to try building.

I'm not sure of make and model, but I saw that it has a 3 phase motor, so plan on spending some cash on an inverter or a new single phase motor. ..
