grinder/buffer location

Since I'm putting a dust collector in my shop I'm trying to keep everything that will be hooked up to it somewhat close together.

I've always been under the rule that you keep your buffer away from your grinders/chop saw because the stray grit can screw up your buffs.

I only have one Baldor and use tapered spindles on it and put the wheels in a cupboard unless being used, but I'm still leary of getting the machines too close.

Is this a legitimate fear and if so, any body have solutions for keeping things close in a small shop but far enough apart to be optimal ???

Thanks,
Nick

I don't know about the optimal shop layout but you could try keeping your buffing wheels in gallon zip-loc bags. That way you could write on the bag with a marker what compound/material that wheel is for, and you'd be certain not to contaminate them with grinder dust.-Guy Thomas

keep your compund in a zip lock bag
I think this is looked over alot

Keep your buffer away from your grinder or any other "spark producing" piece of machinery. A friend of mine was "hogging" some steel and a spark landed on his buffing wheel and it evidently started to smolder. They found the source of the "do you smell something burning?" about 20 minutes later, when it started to get pretty exciting!

does anyone make cloth covers for a buffer, so you don't have to take off the buffs, and still keep them clean. kinda lke a car cover.

How big is your head??? (Sorry, I couldn't resist)
