I am getting ready to start a grinder build on the KMG clone. I've seen differant ones built on here and some are welded, some are not. What's everyones opinion on the best way to go. Thanks for the help.

I welded up my clone (home design no plans) from the start, but some folks are starting with a no weld design then weld it up after everything is where they want it.

I would suggest not welding until you had it running and trued up the way you want it.

also, make SURE to have everything clamped down properly and then tack welded before running your beads.

heat warping welds would drive you NUTS

Yes as Stephan pointed out warping can be a real issue. So I would say it would depend on how good you are at welding. If your good it would be easier and maybe a little faster to weld it up. If your not then you may just ruin a bunch of steel. :) Another down side to welding is its awfully hard to change things later.
Either way good luck.

Thanks Guys. I'll try the no weld. Had not thought about everything lining up and the belt running true. Just got my motor this week and going to try to pick up some of the metal today. Maybe do some reading and thinking and start next wk.

Weld or no weld, that is the question now?

You've got to ask yourself yet another question: Do I want (need) a hedgehog in my workshop?

Good luck, whatever you decide to do!
