Grinder gremlin?

Sanding those out was a bear of a job. Lol! After that one I learned that if take you a coated knife into a really dark room and shine a flashlight across the blade at just the right angle, the gremlins will usually show themselves.

Lol, wow. What about that. That's neat to know.

Yup...and if you go in a dark room with a black light, this is how the gremlins show up................

It's a bit tough to tell from the pic, but is the groove deep? Can you catch a fingernail on it? If so I'd say it's a defect and not a comp finish mark. If it bugs you, send it in for sure.

Well there’s no down side to sending it to the shop. Second thought there’s shipping and some time. But you’d know it’s in great hands and will get taken care of. Just my .02 worth :-)

As long as there is a thread on what warrants a return...
I got a Whiskey Warden with a BIG DC finish. First I've had in that finish, and on the non presentation side, there is a small black dot, right in the middle of the blade, lengthwise and tip to bottom.
I've been told moisture could get in and do damage under the finish, others said that nothing to be concerned about. Amy said to send it in, but as it was destined to be a user, I see no need to send it in if sub-finish damage isn't a concern. I can barely catch a fingernail in it, and it's just pinpoint in size. Just big enough to really notice. I missed it upon first opening it. It's been sitting, waiting for me to decide. Lol
I also have an older Swamp Rat TazRat with a cracked scale, it's still new, no evidence of use, and it runs up from a rivet to the top. I'm going to send it in. Might as well toss in the Whiskey Warden in the same box, is my thought...but don't want to cause extra work, if it isn't a real issue.
I don't have a pic available. But any thoughts would be appreciated.

;)
Thanks. Like I said, didn't want to cause work if it's just an outward appearance thing, but I'll toss it in the box with the Taz:thumbsup:
Edit: lovingly rewrap the Warden and secure it in bombproof packaging

I’ve got something similar with my team Gemini light brigade. The spine isn’t perfectly round.
It’s ground weird on the right side. I’ve tried taking pics but my phone can’t catch it. I’m sure they would say there’s nothing they can do about it. It causes no issues but it’s just the appearance that bothers me for how much it cost :-(

It would probably best to start your own thread about this type of thing instead of putting it in someone else's thread. Also, it's really tough to get an idea about the spot without a pic. It sounds like it could be a spot where they did a hardness test on your blade. If it bothers you though you should send it in.

That's a bummer. You should definitely send it in if it bothers you, and it definitely sounds like it does. I'm sure they can even up the grind to make it symmetrical in no time flat.

I might just do that :-)

Apologies to the OP, and all around...
I have been off the forums mostly for quite awhile and forgot my P's&Q's.
I've got it figured out now, but won't be hijacking any more posts:confused:
I appreciate being reminded

A hardness testing dimple is my favorite kind of blemish. I have an ASH2 with a handle color that I don't care for but it has a few marks that I am almost certain are hardness testing dimples so I can't get myself to trade it off for one with a different handle color. Hard to part with a slab of pork that the head chef may have actually used to make sure a batch of pig steaks was cooked to perfection.

Ooohhh good way to look at it! Plus, you know you got a good one!
