Newbee Question:

I saw a ad for a company called grinder kits. I wanted to know has anyone ever bought one of these kits, and how do you like it, Its based on the Bader design
at www.grinderkit.com Or dos any one have any experience with these kits.

Looks good to me.
If that is the same Will Hurley in Portsmouth ,Ohio as the one here on the BF, he should know what he is doing.

I ordered one last week and should be here in a couple days. Same Wil Hurley. WIll let you know how it performs. It looks very good especially for the price. I am going to mount a C face, 5 hrspwr, DC motor and controls.

Will currently has a thread in the 'supplies for sale' forum. You can ask him questions there, if you like.

John,

please let us know how your grinder turns out. i'm kind of interested in one myself. oh and dont forget the pictures!

The 2" wide machine is far more usable and easier to grind with. If all you had to do was lay the blade on the grinder then the 4" one would be better. Grinding doesn't work like that. Frank

actually I was thinking of the "combo bench sander" half way down the page I can do $109, but $400 is a bit out of my price range.
could I cut the 4" belts in half and use them as 2" on a 4" machine?

A lot of guys get started with the 2x42" machines. They have a lot of limitations but you can grind out some knives with them. If you stay with the hobby you will still find uses for these other sanders when you up-grade to a better machine.

so that's one for the craftsman? I'm leaning toward the eBay one cause i think the grinder attachment will be more useful than a disk and its allot cheaper. are 2"x36" belts readily available

Looking at the one on ebay it looks really underpowered. You can split 4X36 belts so that not much of an issue.I think the craftsman would be a better grinder for not much more.I ran one for a coulpe of years and it held up well.

That grinder is SUPERIOR to a Sears machine. It is a very good grinder from a member right here on Bladeforums. You can get one without the motor and get your own motor. That is the nice thing compared to a grinder with a built in motor. I had used 1.5hp on my KMG which was ok but I sold it for a 2hp which is much better. Bottom line, this is a super grinder especially for the $$.

how many Hp does the Ebay one have, and what would you recomend? it seems to me that 2 hp is pretty good, and under 1 is not so good.

The grinder I am seeing on ebay has a 2X27" belt and a grinding wheel and is very small ,may have a wrong link.

yeah sorry the one I'm interested in is first one I sorta Hijacked the thread. didn't mean to, sort of thought somebody would post something so enlightening that my decision would already be made.
