Prior to moving my shop back in 2007 I'd noticed that my GE 115v 1.5HP motor that I used on my KMG would bog down a bit more than usual. Now that I'm set back up I'm starting to find it pretty irritating.

I spoke to my older brother, who is a whiz-bang electrical engineer and he said that eventually this can happen to the motors and even though right in town we have an electric motor service, that the cost of a rewind is almost more than a new motor.

Anyone else ever experience this?

I was looking at the Beaumont site and their main 1.5 motor is a Leeson. I found this same model via PTJ Industrial for $209 shipped. I'm anxious to see how it performs

Have you taken apart the motor, cleaned and lubed all bearings ( and replaced bad ones), blown it out, cleaned off the wire jumpers and posts, changed brushes, etc.?
Just like putting new plugs and ignition wires in a car, this can give new life to a motor.

You can check with the motor shop and have them give you an estimate on your motor. Actual rewinding is seldom necessary unless there has been a short in the windings.

is the drive belt loose? get some scrap steel and lean into the platen or contact wheel to stall it. does the motor stop spinning? or is the motor still spinning but drive shaft had stopped? if everything stops and light on vfd turns red, you have maxed out your system.

I'd look at that

Especially since the KMG has no easily adjustable belt tension.

In the idle tome that it sat, I bet the belt stretched a little.

Tighting the belt can do wonders for motors that bog down
