Grinder Motor Question

This involves rigging a piggyback motor to drive a Square Wheel Grinder at a slower speed with the use of a belt and pullys. Back in the eighties, I made a simple hand crank to do this by attaching a pully to the rear of the SWG motor, connected to my hand crank via a V belt. I would have my apprentice, or one of my kids do the cranking while I did a final fine 600 grit satin finish on a hollow ground blade, which did not take long at all. If this was done with a secondary motor instead of by hand, would this damage the SWG motor bearings, or anything else concerning the SWG motor ?

I put a washing machine motor on my square wheel years ago to slow it down and it still works fine...........Photos available..........carl

Is it possible to see a couple of those pictures? I changed out my washer and dryer recently and I intend on taking the motors off to use. How did you set them up?

I think the std motor may over rev the piggy-back. If nothing else the extra drag even on a free wheeling motor may prove to be a pain. I'd suggest pulling the belt off the piggy-back when not in use and you should be good to go.

That was the intent. The belt would be off except for occasional use.
