Hello. My question is in regards to my power supply for a grinder. I will be placing the order for a KMG by Friday (I hope). I'm settled on the package I want, but still questioning which motor to go with. This will be the VS set-up btw. I have a utility building behind my house that I will be working in. It is wired with 110 only and I don't wish to run a dedicated circuit/line with 220 at this time. I am less than 50 ft to my dryer. If I choose the 2 hp which requires single phase to the VFD, could I not just construct an extension cord? I believe 10/4 should be adequate for this application with the proper recepticle and plug. Is this something I could do or should even be considering? Should I just go with 1.5 hp and not worry about it? I've read comments from those who wished they had went with more hp. I guess this is what's causing my indecision. Thanks.

50 feet will have a bit of voltage drop. You will have to run the line in 10 gauge .

If you eliminate one plug from the circuit, it will be a bit better.
What I would do is put a small disconnect box next to the dryer box and hard-wire the extension to it. Jumper the power from the dryer box to the disconnect. Put the matching socket on the end to mate the KMG plug. Put a garden hose rack on the wall and hang the coiled extension on it when not in use. Make the extension long enough to have some room to lay it out smoothly and safely. Use a rope to test the length.
make a sign to hang on the dryer that says "DO NOT USE" and place it on the dryer door when using the KMG.
