Hello all,

Ive been putting together a KMG clone no weld grinder the past couple weeks. I machine plastics and wood at work. I am pretty unfamiliar with steel:) Not a traditional machinist , I just kind of fell into this role at work over the years.

have a couple questions.
If the grinder is going to track well how close do the tolerances need to be? Of course, the closer the better. I am within +- .005 thousandths on most holes. I have a couple off as much as .015 ..Is it worth doing these parts over?

I gather that the best place to get my wheels is Beaumont metal works. My motor is a 1725 rpm single phase 1 HP Leeson. I am planning on running a step pulley setup. Will the 4 inch tracking and drive wheels along with 2 inch wheels for the platen be a good match?

Unrelated to the grinder, I bought some 440c and ats 34 steel some years ago. Trouble is i lost track of what is what. Best way to tell em apart?

TIA,
TimJohnson

started grinding some of the steels i have. I notice the 440c or ats 34 grinds a heck of a lot easier than 01! is 440c easier to grind than the ats 34?
