How much time does it take you guys to grind a blade on a beltgrinder?

I have a 2" by 40" machine, and it takes forever to grind the bevels just with gritt 40.
What would be normal?

About 20 minutes for a 50 Grit on a 5 inch blade on the 2 X 72 Wilton using an 8 inch serrated wheel.

Probably 20 minutes per side to get the bevels established with a Blaze 60 grit and then progress them to roughly 400.

If I'm doing my 2nd Amendment knife, I can go from square flat bar stock and have a knife ready to heat treat in about 30min. that includes all the profiling and edge bevels. I use 50-60 grit blaze belts and then hit the edge bevels with a 120 grit belt. then its to the heat treat. but ya the edge bevels don't take to long.

3 minutes. Done. 2 x 72 grinder on super fast speed.

Man Dan your the man. What kind of sfpm are you running. My grinder just eats steel at 10000 sfpm but I get frightend as a broken belt could remove my face at thoes speeds.

OK, thnx and how many knives do you guys grind with a belt before the belt is considered worn out?

good question. it takes me about 1/2 hr on 2x72 Grizzly w/ most work done on 60 grit and i usually retire a belt (to handle making duties) after 5-7 knives. For a flat grind i sometimes just use a 12" disc sander w/ 60 grit disc for the heavy work.

Dan,
I have seen you in action. Did you ever get that loud noise fixed that was coming from your grinder? LOL!
Take care buddy,
Bryan
