Hello,

Ive done most of my knife making on a 1x30 and it finally broke on me so its time for a new grinder. Im looking at the kmg and the grizzly 2x72. The grizzly goes for about 500$ and the kmg would probably cost about 1000$ to get running? I make knives as a hobby but would like to eventually sell some of my work. Can the grizzly do everything the kmg can? Is it worth double the money? Is the kmg overkill for the average home knife maker? Will the grizzly limit me in any way?Im going to try my hand at titanium frame locks if that makes any difference. Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris

Yes the KMG is worth twice the money of the grizzly and is ever expandable. The grizzly is not.Itg is not overkill and if you ever get tired of it you can sell it for almost your full investment.

I have a grizzly and I love it. That said, there is no way to slow it down (it runs pretty fast) without rebuilding it, the tracking sucks, and there is a clearance issue with the contact wheel (also, my contact wheel didn't come round). I do flat grinding, so the contact wheel isn't an issue, I rarely do plunge lines, so the tracking isn't an issue, and I haven't needed to slow it down for anything. The work rest isn't great, but I haven't had a big problem with it. It works great for me. It may not work great for you. If you can afford the KMG I would go for it, even if you're just a hobbyist.

The grizzly is a fantastic grinder, I have a KMG, was my second grinder after a 1x30, If i'd of used a grizzly I think I would have had one between the 1x30 and the KMG.
