Grinder question

I don't know much, but I do know that Pheer Grinders are supposed to be high quality, and not very expensive. A variable speed, flat platen grinder only runs about 675, and I bet you could get an even better deal with a single speed.

I was going yo hive them a shout on Monday and see what my options are. I have a single speed motor that will get me by if need be, so maybe I can but everything but the motor and then upgrade in a month or two.

the pheers basically look like the no weld grinder to me only cept welded. i wonder because of the weight difference if you lose "smoothness" with the pheer or is it robust enough to help with vibration?

The pheer I ordered will be here in another week and a half-two weeks, so I would be glad to answer any questions you have about it.

Thanks, I am really leaning towards a Pheer. It is a little more than I wanted to spend initially, but I think it is going to be my best bet.

Ok one more question. I found a 2x60 grinder for sale local. It has a flat platen, and I am thinking I could mod it to use a contact wheel later on down the road. I am going to look at it on Wednesday. Would that be more beneficial than the 2.5 inch grinder? I am still considering the Pheer, but this one is a good bit cheaper. I would most likely get the Pheer as well, just not as soon. Thanks for all the help.

Do you have a pic of it. Could be a big step up from say the craftsman or something.

Here are a few pictures of it. Like I said its older, but it runs really well. Just need to clean it up if I get it.

looks to me like a great sturdy grinder. Should be much better then a craftsman overall. I would grab it if it was me.

Check out the Pheer. Do a search, there's been a few reviews on it. Everything I've read about em is great.

You can get one starting around $675 and even one with a VFD can run you under $1000. Its going to be my next grinder. I've been using a 2x42 for the last few years.

If you don't mind my asking, how much is the 2x60?

Do you have 3 ph in your shop. If not then you will need to get a phase converter or VFD to run it. Most homes have single phase power. That will cost you a couple of hundred or more. I wouldn't buy it unless you are planning on getting a VFD to run it. I wouldn't want to put more than $400 - $500 into the whole set up. If that.

If you buy a variable Pheer you could possibly run both motors off of the one VFD... but definitely talk that guy down on the price for that OLD and USED grinder with a 3 phase motor that NOBODY can really USE. See?

I have a Pheer and do recommend it- for all that it's built out of 1/8" wall tube, there's no vibration to the frame and the tracking is very good.
