Grinder Questions

Hey Jack I started making knives at your age and took my first lesson from Tim Hancock as a 13th birthday present from my folks. Knifemaking and skills that stemmed from it pair for most of my college (a lot of college, good times). I'm pretty sue my grinder is a ways out of your price range, but I bet I could be of help. No promises, but pending you and your folks fabrication skills and maybe some blem parts and advice maybe a home built machine would work well. Feel free to give me a call. Nice thing about knifemaking, people are very helpful to newcomers or just in general.

Definately go with the best machine you can get, but everyone has to start somewhere. I've seen some amazing things done with an angle grinder, good sanding discs, and files. Anyway good luck and let me know if I can help.

I have been considering a single speed Pheer which would be more in my price range. I have thought about building one but for the most part decided against that to be sure it is good not just ok. Does anyone have any experience using a pheer?

I got one the other day to review, I've been grinding with it and testing it. So far I like it and think I would recommend it- but if you want more thoughts on it, wait a day or two and I'll be posting a review with probably some pics. I will say as well that Jose who makes the Pheer seems like a good guy to work with.

The GIB would be my choice. Get your self a used motor and start from there.
