grinder shipping blues!

I have a chance to buy a second hand grinder with motor, but hres the problem, I live in Canada and the grinder lives in washington state. I phoned the couriers DHL and such they want $400 bucks to air it to me.:foot::barf:
Does any body know of a freight shipper that will send it by land for a reasonable cost?:confused:

What does it weigh? I used to ship heavy electronic componets to Canada all the time using UPS.
 
I'm guessing it all depends how a) how much it weighs and b) what size the box is. If the box weighs practically nothing, but is seriously on the huge size, you will be charged freight according to the size of the oversized box. Once I shipped an item that was only 110 pounds, but since the box was 45" x 35" x 28", the item was rated at 260 pounds and cost 600 bucks. So the smaller you can get the item shipped box wise or heck even have the grinder/motor put into several boxes, that will be waaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than all put into the same box making it oversized.
 
It is a grizzley grinder with the buffing wheel on the other and some various sundry extras, so it is weighing in at about 100lbs, I guess a tall slim crate.
Thanks for the input so far. I guess it could be made to go into 2 boxes.

Damn the thing brand new is only $400 bucks from Grizzly and $75 bucks shipping to the states...i'm guessing it can't be THAT much more to ship it to Canada!
 
In my opinion though, 3600 RPM for a belt speed is WAAAAAAAAAAAY too fast for grinding knives, especially after the blades are tempered.
 
I just looked up prices for Fedex Ground from Seattle Washington, No idea what city the grinder is in, and put in Canada and Winnipeg Zip code of R2H 2V7 (One I know off the top of my head) and it said for 110 pound it's roughly 84 bucks with measurements of 10" x 36" x 36" inches. DHL is ripping you off SERIOUSLY!

Did you check to see if they are available from Springfield, MO Grizzly store? 984 miles, vs 1725 from Bellingham, WA...
 
Yes I will have to pay duty if I buy anything from outside the country, fact of life I gusee, thanks for the help.

If you go UPS they will have an extra charge of there own to put on any package from the USA to Canda.
