Grinder slow startup

I built a 2x72 last year with a 2 HP, 1800 rpm, with KBAC drive. Now when I start it up it bogs or starts slow unless I pull the tension/tracking arm down a fraction of an inch or just enough to relieve a bit of pressure off of it then it goes up to full speed or whatever speed I set it at. Then it runs fine until I switch belts or shut it down and restart it. I only have a 40 lb gas shock on it. Maybe that's too much?

It hasn't always done this. It doesn't do it every time but probably about 80% of the time. It doesn't matter if I start it slow or at higher speeds. If I let it go too long before pulling on arm the drive will blink a red light and fault out. Anyone ever had any issues with this? Is it too much side pressure on the shaft? I really don't want to damage the motor or the drive.

Does the VFD bring up an error code? I'd wager it'll be an over current code if it displays one.

Double check your wiring on the VFD to make sure you don't have a connection coming loose or wire pulling out of a crimp connector, etc..
Next time it happens shut it down right away and pull the belt by hand to check if you can feel any binding. I've had bearings act up intermittently before they went into total failure.

Do you have your platen pushed our past your wheels? This causes a tremendous amount of friction.

While the power (and belt) are off does the motor spin freely and smoothly? Does it start up normally without a belt on it? Is it a TEFC motor? Also, make sure all your wheels spin freely without a belt (bearings).

Is it a motor with brushes? If so it can mean the brushes are worn and don't have enough pressure on the armature to be making a good connection.
