Hey guys, I am in the process of setting up my new pheer 454. I have been debating the merits of welding up a pedestal type stand. How are you guys set up and why? Pictures would be awesome!!
Here is where I am at now, don't know if I want to bolt it down yet!!

I have mine set up on a Harbor Freight machinery stand that I've added wheels on, so that it can be rolled outdoors when it's nice.

This is the setup I started with. An old 1960s Craftsman drill press column.
It worked just fine, but I would anchor the column to the wall at the top if I were to use it again.
I've since mounted on a good solid bench. But this did work fine.
It has the advantage of being height adjustable. Not so great for tilting machines that would end up off center though.

That looks way good! I may have a drill press column I could cannibalize too...

This is my mobile KMG 2HP machine. The base is from Makita. We built the platform from plywood sheet and covered it in Alum. It has hydralic assist pistons to slow the lowering.
I take it to demonstrations and to sharpening seminars.

Not a pedastal, but needed more workbench space. And this was made specifically with a metal support where the grinder mounts so it can be flipped.

So I just finished mine. I almost didn't make it horizontal/convertible but I am really glad I did. It's super handy. I still might put some tool holder arms on it, but I really like it. Height adjustable is really convenient

I picked up one of those HF universal stands. I'm going to top it with 3/4" MDF and bolt the KMG baseplate to it. I like the wheel idea. I'll have to give that a try.

Some really great layouts here.

Might be that many of you have seen these photos before, but this is mine... the motor hangs in the cabinet below. I can't say it is the optimum configuration; but given the limitations of my tiny workspace, it helped to minimize footprint while maximizing useable storage and counter-top space. The down-side is all of the clean-up. I'm constantly sweeping/vacuuming dust off the counter-top and surface plate.

Back in '09, when it was brand new.

The concept I'm going with is: minimum horizontal surface, to minimize dust build-up. Backdrop is a piece of kevlar cloth.

Your photo won't show up for me... but this is a great design philosophy. I really need to come up with a quality backdrop.
