My thumb thought it was a good idea to pick a fight with the grinder. Well it lost. Of course it decided to fight right after I put on a fresh 40 grit. No stiches needed, well I guess not, since there isn't anything there to stitch.;)

This is by far the worst shop accident to date, and thankfully it isn't that bad. I don't see/smell bone anyway.

Just thought I would post this to remind everyone to stay safe, and don't let your gaurd down, things happen quick.

Let me know if you want ot see a picture of it.:D

This is getting bad. Every time someone posts about a painful accident, my response is: I do that all the time.

Oh well....I do that all the time Hurts like He!! doesn't it. Wait until you grind your knuckle:barf: I really hate that one!:grumpy:

I do that on occasion. The best is when I jam my knuckle into the 36 grit wheel on my big grinder it runs at a little over 7000 surface feet a minute....takes off the flesh and cauterizes it all in one pass
Hope you heal up soon.

OK. sicko, Dan. ;)

It finally stopped bleeding and is now starting to weep, hurt, and get stiff. I think I am done grinding for today, maybe a good night for a couple beers. ;)

Here is a pic:

man you didn't even get much of the nail :)
the picture came out clear so you must not be in to much
pain yet,,, your not shaking get that beer in you quick
tell the little woman you need a back rub to ease the pain.
(ole Chinese remedy  )
and if she goes for that,, well just play it by ear from there.
you got to use these things to your advantage you know
:D :D

Sean,

Nice grind lines, excellent plunge! :D Is that hollow-ground, I can't quite tell?? Good job. Amazing how well they bleed when you slice a whole bunch of those teen-weeny capillaries at once, eh?

Let the dog lick it so's it won't get infected and get back to work.... :)

Yea, how'd ya miss the nail? I always get mine...just take a shot of whisky, poor another on your cut, and get back to work! :p Hope you heal quickly...

At least you didnt gring off the tip of your thumb. That takes forever to heal either way.Glad you didnt lose more of it Sean.

Suck it up Sean...that was just a graze!;) :p be thankful the bone isn't sticking thru! hope you heel up good brother! i want to see some more of your cool Damascus!

I don't know how i missed the nail, cat like reflexes I guess.:D

Hopefully, this little incident will only set me back a day or two. Just as long as she dries up a little, I will wrap it up and get back into the shop tomorrow.

It is getting uglier by the minute, should be a nice show and tell at work tomorrow. :)

Sean, you mean the posts or your thumb? I know a gal that does that, my mother in law.She was ugly to start with.

Ouch! Yeah I've done that too, but most recently the incident I had with a belt was when I was grinding with a finer Trizac belt and my thumb ran up on the edge of the belt! Imagine an inch long paper cut half an inch deep with a belt running along through it! The edges of the fine belts cut like a...well they cut like a knife!:D

Those hard plastic micron belts are very good at slicing a nice clean piece out of whatever they contact.

Hmmmm - now put it in a vise and see if it will bend 90 degrees without cracking :-)

We need a gallery of gnarly, I mean unfortunate, injuries.

Thanks for the post Laredo - little safety reminder now and then is a good thing.

Tim

I think the last time I did that, was the last time I tapered a tang. No more tapered tangs for me.

That one of my main reasons for not using 36 grit belts. My favorite is 80 for the most part. Just enough bite to let you know your still alive. I usually check once a day if I need to or not....
